    Shared Services Consultant

    Job description

    Reporting lines

    You will report to the project manager. You will present the results of the business case analysis to the main board. During the implementation period you will report to the improvement project manager and be part of the project team.

    Role

    • Review Current Set Up and Performance of the SSC
    • The consultant will conduct a review of the set-up, procedures, process and resource deployment and management of the existing SSC and identify improvements in efficiency and effectiveness identified as quick wins and long terms objectives together with implementation plans for both of these.
    • Substantiate the business case for the proposed improvements
    • The consultant will be expected to substantiate the current business. The business case you will develop will address among other areas the following:
    • Determine, based on current transaction volumes and based on a greenfield SSC redesign, what number of people each function should have and design the organisational structure
    • Transition, recruitment and relocation (implementation) plan
    • To achieve the suggested headcount what are the minimum requirements for the staff to employ and what are the criteria for the business processes (systems, processes)
    • Which roles can be employed with local staff and for which roles should we keep, recruit expatriate staff
    • What are the overhead costs of the SSC moving forward and the one-off costs to make the improvements
    • Final business case, road map and project plan
    • Deliver the business case, road map and proposed project plan in the prescribed format and present to the board for discussion and approval.
    • Development, train and implement
    • In co-ordination with the improvement project manager and other senior managers, executives’ set-up and implement the SSC as agreed in the business case as defined above
    • You will be responsible to deliver all aspects of the implementation plan with support of the project team
      You will develop or hire the SSC manager. You will stabilise and handover the management of the SSC within 6 months. A mentorship, advisory role thereafter for another 3 months may be considered.

    Project time lines

    • Start date December - early Jan 2017
    • End-January business case approval by the board
    • Feb-March build of the SSC infrastructure, systems changes, hiring and/or training of local staff
    • April-June implementation
    • Jul-Sept optimisation and handover period

    Requirements

    • 15-20 years’ experience of designing and implementing new, small shared services businesses
    • Previously end-responsible for at least 3-5 full SSC implementations
    • Strong financial (process), project implementation and training/coaching skills
    • Good understanding of other functional areas such as IT infrastructure, Human Resources, Payroll, Compliance, Management Reporting,etc
    • Ability to deliver yourself the required change rather than rely on functional, team leads
    • Willingness to travel occasionally to East African countries as and when required
    • Excellent English skills
