    Functional Manager Transport East & West Africa

    Job description

    Key Responsibilities

    • Determining staffing requirements and working with the human resources group to recruit staff and contract personnel;
    • Developing staff skills including training and career initiatives;
    • Maintaining appropriate succession planning and staff resource planning systems;
    • Preparing and delivering the regional business strategy for the transport group;
    • Marketing the company’s transport sector with clients and prospective clients;
    • Leading the Transport business development group in identifying and tracking business opportunities, developing appropriate partners/associations and strategies, and preparing expressions of interest and proposals;
    • Liaising and collaborating with counterparts in the Southern Africa Region;
    • Ensuring that proposals include sufficient fees and expenses to facilitate the technical delivery of the projects to a minimum acceptable standard;
    • Ensuring that project deliverables are reviewed internally at appropriate stages for all transport projects and that project outputs meet contractual obligations in terms of timeframe, technical standards, and quality;
    • Providing key expert inputs to projects and performing the role of project director as required;
    • Reviewing and ensuring that all projects are accurately planned and that project plans are up to date;
    • Monitoring annual project fee and contribution performance against budget targets and taking appropriate actions to maximize budget performance; and
    • Contributing to the preparation of the transport budget for the region.

    Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Appropriate engineering or equivalent degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
    • Minimum 10 years of practical experience in highways and transport
    • Demonstrated leadership
    • Sound technical knowledge related to highways and transport
    • A thorough understanding of highway and transport project implementation
    • Business planning, budgeting and commercial acumen
    • Proven project management skills, and hands-on experience, encompassing administrative, commercial and technical aspects, and ability to deliver within project based budgets and timelines
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully undertake and deliver the client’s TOR
    • An understanding of business, organisation and marketing
    • Customer service orientation
    • Industry awareness
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
