    Team Leader - Antimicrobial Resistance

    Job description

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Team leader - Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR) to support the development of a Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) AMR-hub and lead an interdisciplinary team focused on antibacterial resistance across veterinary & public health, and across natural & social science. The post holder will be expected to establish their own programme of international research.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the AMR research portfolio at ILRI, including its contribution to CGIAR research Programs (CRP) on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) and Livestock
    • Coordinate a cluster of activities on ‘Global health challenges (including AMR)’ in CRP A4NH
    • Contribute and advocate visibility of CGIAR AMR work through communication platforms with support of communication experts
    • Liaise with other CGIAR centres and other partners (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), The University of Liverpool (UoL), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), and National Agricultural Research Organizations (NARO(NAROs) to strengthen CGIAR AMR research
    • Develop internationally competitive and externally funded interdisciplinary research projects on antimicrobial resistance
    • Support the development of a CGIAR AMR Hub

    Requirements

    • PhD in relevant area (e.g. epidemiology, microbiology, biology, veterinary medicine).
    • 10-15 years’ experience after post-doc level
    • Experience in leading substantial multi-disciplinary research programs, incl. social sciences
    • Track record of obtaining funding for research and development
    • Experience in managing external partnerships
    • Excellent communication and convening skills
    • Work experience in Low and middle-income Countries (LMIC) is an added advantage

    Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya

    Position level: The position level is 5B

    Duration: 3 years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
