    Programme Management Internship

    The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days (35-40 hours) per week under the direct supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Managment Officer/Coordinator, Resource Efficiency Programme, the intern will:

    • Develop and/or update the resource mobilization strategy for the programme, identify donors and grants, prepare grant applications
    • Maintain database for programme performance tracking and populate this with historical data as well as new data;
    • Collect, analyze and interpret on a regular basis data related to the implementation of the programmes to support monitoring and reporting of higher-level results;
    • Monitor and analyze specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation and follow-up with project teams on their reporting requirements as necessary;
    • Develop and maintain the project portfolio databases for the resource efficiency programme, including status of project development and approvals, revisions, evaluations and closures;
    • Assist in analyzing and visualizing project data, including the mapping of project presence, and maintain the intranet and programmatic websites;
    • Undertake research on current and emerging trends and prepare analytical summaries that can support strategic planning and implementation of the UN Environment Medium-Term Strategy and the biennial Programmes of Work;
    • Contribute to the preparation of contracts, terms of reference, proofing of drafts and selected inputs, such as success stories and lessons learnt, draft background papers, analytical notes, websites and social media networks, etc.
    • Provide administrative and meeting support to the coordination functions in the Resource Efficiency programme;
    • Analyze reports, survey results and briefs to extract key messages and develop summaries.
    • Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops seminars, webinars and other similar activities, supporting with the preparation of agendas, co-drafting background materials, meeting reports, assist with ad hoc meetings and prepare meeting minutes if required.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Agriculture, International Development, Project Development, International Studies and Economics or related courses);
    • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Agriculture, International Development, Project Development, International Studies and Economics or related courses); or
    • have graduated with a university degree (in the courses as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
    • Have a demonstrated and keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • The candidate must have strong analytical skills

    Work Experience

    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience to participate in the programme. However, experience in research and writing documents related to resource efficiency and environmental issues is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.
    • Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
