    Public Health Regional Coordinator (One Year Fixed Term Contract)

    Job description

    IQVIA is looking for a Public Health Regional Coordinator for a leading Public Health Project based in Nairobi, Kenya. Successful candidate will be expected to travel. This role is a One Year Fixed Term Contract. 

    We are hiring for a project-based role for a 2-year period – The project is about generating evidence on Anti-biotic resistance and Anti-biotic usage across 12 countries in Africa (approx. 3-4 countries in each of East, West and Southern Africa) and IQVIA is one of the key partners in a large consortium created for this project.

    This position is for RC for East Africa countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania in scope of the project.

    The RC will play a coordinator role in the region which will include the necessary technical support to these countries to seek buy-in for the project, oversee and supervise the gathering of required data and evidence on anti-biotic resistance and usage from labs and pharmacies, support analysis and use of this data to report the results to key stakeholders in the countries to ensure that gaps and improvements are captured into the AMR National Action Plans.

    Specific roles and responsibilities include:

    • Coordination and supervisory support to countries in the East region of Africa to gather data on Anti-biotic usage and anti-biotic resistance, from public and private sector labs and pharmacies
      • Coordinate the activities of the regional data collectors and supervisors to ensure satisfactory completion of activities as required;
      • Train and equip data collectors who will be sourced from the country itself to visit the various sites and perform the data collection activities which may include digitalisation of manual data into electronic format using the required IT system;
      • Ensure that the countries’ data collectors are skilled to perform their role and gather the necessary data in the format and detail as required.
      • Facilitate and conduct monthly meetings of the regional data collection team
      • Establish relationships with relevant stakeholders for the collection of data in the countries
    • Undertake workshops in the country to define the project objectives, set the data collection standards and methodology and identify the sites for collection of data
    • Assist with the review, finalisation and signing of the data transfer agreements with the countries
    • Serve as a liaison between regional partners and other local, state and federal stakeholders
    • Provide technical assistance as needed for planning and preparedness activities. Conduct on-site technical assistance visits to each county/country as needed/requested.
    • Monitor current information availability regarding consumption and resistance of anti-biotics
    • Monitor or attend all meetings required of Regional Coordinators and report written/verbal to Regional Project manager
    • Conduct the necessary technical workshops to standardised data collection and reporting standards and identify sites for collection of data
    • Coordinate the activities of the country level regional grants working group which will:
      • Oversee the regional grant work in the country
      • Create the necessary advocacy around the purpose of the regional grants and facilitate the buy in and support needed to perform the grant activities in the country;
      • Interact and liaise with the Country Coordinators of the other consortium partners and the client, partners to determine progress of the project, review any challenges and risks and solve any duplications and overlaps;
    • During monitoring visits in-countries, additionally do the following:
      • Train the facility staff to use the IT system so that data may continue to be digitalised and submitted for reporting beyond the timeframe of this grant;
      • Train the facility staff to use the IT system to visualise their data within the facility, to perform their own analysis, report internally and use their own data for AMR improvement and implementation of activities;
    • Deliver presentations and report back to the country its AMR and AMU data results, quality improvement needs and gaps as well as help work with the country to define next steps and actions to be taken as part of their AMR NAP’s
    • Work on creating periodic progress reports/ report on monitoring framework as required by the Project Manager
    • 30-40% travel will be required to project countries in respective regions

    Experience/ Qualifications:

    • ~6-8 years of work experience managing large-scale projects in the healthcare space
    • Experience working and coordinating with multiple stakeholders in the private and public healthcare space
    • Ability to lead project teams across countries and play a hands-on and operational/ coordination role among multiple teams/ partners/ stakeholders
    • Minimum of Bachelors’ degree, and preferred if candidate has a Masters’ degree in any relevant discipline such as Pharmacy/Economics/Business/ Health/ Social Development or related fields
    • Good level of proficiency in powerpoint, excel and word
    • Prior experience in global/ public health space in Africa is a plus
    • Prior experience in managing large scale data collection/ evidence generation projects is a plus
    • Candidate should be open to travel for 30-40% of the time.

    The ideal candidate should be available to assume the role between 2-3 weeks.
