Job Purpose: This role is responsible for the development and implementation of a risk management strategy that ensures Toyota Kenya is proactive in the management of risk, for minimal risk exposure to Toyota Kenya.
Further, the position will work closely with the Legal Department to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and policy issues.
Main Responsibilities of the Job
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Develop a risk management strategy to advise the operations of the department in the provision of an operating business environment that is proactive in risk management, to support the achievement of the Toyota Kenya business strategy;
- Develop and coordinate the maintenance of a Risk Management Framework for Toyota Kenya (Risk Governance Structure, Risk tools – Risk register, Compliance Register and incident report, Policies, Process, Business Continuity Planning and Crisis Management), to ensure the availability of a foundation from which to protect Toyota Kenya from preventable risks;
- Create awareness on Risk Management to ensure the operations across all divisions in Toyota Kenya are managed from an informed point;
- Liaise with service providers to ensure that an effective whistle blowing service is maintained
- Develop the Budget for the Risk Management department to ensure the allocation of sufficient resources critical for the implementation of the risk management strategy;
- Monitoring departmental expenditure to ensure efficiency in the utilisation of resources.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Study proposed legislation to determine possible effect to the Toyota Kenya business, and to liaise with Legal Department and advise on best course of action;
- Identify and nurture relationships with key officials from government and other institutions to persuade them to support legislation favourable to the Toyota Kenya business objectives;
- Coordinate support to users in risk management to ensure the identification of accurate risks and the development of sound countermeasures,
- Review key risk areas for each section to ensure gaps in risk management are identified and addressed in a timely manner;
- Review and submit risk reports to management to ensure management is well informed of progress as well as challenges in risk management;
- Coordinate financial and operational risk reviews to ensure the processes employed provide results that add value to the business in line with the Toyota Kenya key performance areas;
- Direct investigations on business malpractice incidents (Security and fraud incidents) in liaison with the Security Department, and report on findings to ensure management is well informed on the incidents, in order for strategies to be developed and implemented to protect against recurrences.
- Develop and implement Business Continuity Plans to limit risks and prepare for if things go wrong
- Conducting audits of policy and compliance to standards and Group requirements including liaison with internal and external auditors
- Enforcement of the Group’s Code of Ethics and Governance
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum level of academic and professional qualification required to perform effectively in the roles
- Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution
- CPA (K)
- A Law degree would be an added advantage
Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role
- 8 years’ relevant experience with 3 years at a senior position in a reputable audit firm
