    Research Assistant

    Job Details

    Social Network of Youths after HIV Seroconversion in the Sustainable East Africa Research in Community Health (SEARCH) Study will compare the social networks of youth before and after seroconversion and evaluate the association of the network changes with clinical outcomes. Youths who were 15-24 years old and HIV uninfected during the baseline year and seroconverted prior to follow up year three will be involved in this cross-sectional survey.

    Global Programs for Research & Training is seeking to employ one (1) Research Assistant. The position will require a 5 months commitment.

    The Research Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Conduct recruitment, screening, and informed consent activities for the study
    • Timely Data entry of study information collected from participants
    • Conduct interviews at the clinic and participants’ homes using tablet PCs
    • Respond to data queries
    • Work with Clinicians to ensure accurate data collection and entry
    • Understand the study design and objectives to assist n the successful implementation of the study
    • Screen, recruit and consent study participants
    • Communicate with study coordinator, data manager and other HODs regularly on study data progress
    • Ensure compliance to protocol and procedures for the study
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting as per study protocol
    • Works in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity

    Required Qualifications

    Diploma in IT, computer science, community development or related field required

    Required Experience

    • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in data entry
    • Knowledge of computer packages such as MS Word, Excel, Access and databases such as Kenya EMR, Open MRS and comfortable working with computers
    • Familiarity with using Android tablets to collect survey data and troubleshoot tablet malfunctions

    Other Required Skills

    • Good understanding of HIV data collection tools such as Blue (Green) cards, MOH registers
    • Experience with questionnaire implementation on tablets and data abstraction
    • HIV research experience strongly preferred
    • Experience with research studies in community and/or HIV care settings
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills; detail oriented
    • Independent judgement and resourcefulness, understanding of the local social and geographical landscape as well as the community required
    • Fluency in English, Kiswahili and Dholuo required
    • High level of integrity
    • Ability to travel to study sites and participant homes on a regular basis
    • Ability to ride a motorbike (with a valid driving license) will be an added advantage
