    Arts Officer East Africa

    Pay band: 4

    Role Purpose

    As the Arts Officer, you will support the East Africa Arts Programme Managers and the wider British Council team, to deliver an engaging East Africa Arts programme that works within British Council’s East Africa Arts programme and builds knowledge and understanding between the UK and East Africa..

    Challenges & Accountabilities

    This role requires a clear understanding of project coordination and administrative processes which will support the British Council’s East Africa Arts programme delivery to Kenya as the East Africa Arts cluster hub. The role will also lead on financial support to the East Africa Arts Managers including assisting in budget development, procurement and granting of goods, creating and raising purchase orders, finances and services in line with established corporate policies and guidelines; and support and report on the arts programme monitoring and reporting on budget and finances for Kenya and East Africa in compliance with the British Council’s standards and external financial control frameworks.

    Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation would be advantageous as the postholder will support a monitoring and evaluation process in all projects so that project outcomes and impacts are measured reported and archived according to corporate/client standards, and lessons learned fed into on-going project design and delivery. You will work with the Arts Managers across East Africa to ensure projects are marketed to the highest standards according to the brand guidelines in print (press, publications) TV, radio, digitally (websites, social media) and at events (conferences, workshops, meetings), and also support communications teams from across the organisation to tell stories of the impact of the Arts and for British Council’s East Africa Arts programme.

    Essential Requirements

    The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:

    • At least two years’ recent professional experience coordinating and supporting projects in the arts and cultural sector (as per role profile).
    • Experience of working in a team to ensure significant impact through successful outcomes from cultural programmes.
    • Knowledge and experience of event organization
    • Experience of financial administration
    • Database Management
    • Good knowledge and use of social media for the promotion of cultural activities;
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
    • Ability to work effectively with tight deadlines.

    Desirable Requirements

    • Degree in relevant field
    • Experience in using SAP

    Additional Information: Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in Kenya
