    Communications Lead

    The Role

Africa No Filter is seeking an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and highly tech-savvy Communications Lead to run our digital, media, and narrative strategy.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone with strong agency experience who understands how to design and execute communications campaigns that deliver visible results. The Communications Lead will combine strategic vision with disciplined execution, ensuring ANF’s work cuts through, is well positioned, and reaches the right audiences at the right moments.

The role requires deep fluency in digital strategy, strong media instincts, media contacts and curiosity about how AI and emerging technologies can improve workflows, content development, monitoring, and delivery. A key responsibility will be helping to shape and execute flagship initiatives such as the Opportunity Africa campaign and the Narrative Index Project, alongside ANF’s broader communications and advocacy priorities.

    About Opportunity Africa

Opportunity Africa is Africa No Filter’s flagship, bold, multi‑year narrative and branding campaign designed to reposition Africa globally and internally as a continent of opportunity, progress, and innovation. It moves beyond fragmented storytelling to create a unifying narrative architecture that governments, businesses, creators, media, and institutions can adopt, align with, and amplify.

Built as a three‑year continental campaign, Opportunity Africa combines brand, storytelling, coalition‑building and media activation to shift mindsets, attract investment and trade, and strengthen confidence – particularly among Africa’s youth and diaspora. It is designed to live beyond individual projects or funding cycles, embedding narrative change into systems, institutions, and everyday communications.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications, PR & Narrative Leadership

    • Lead ANF’s overall communications and PR strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and campaigns.
    • Develop and place media releases, opinion pieces, and thought leadership in targeted African and international publications.
    • Maintain and leverage strong media relationships across Africa.
    • Design and execute PR and communications campaigns that generate measurable visibility, engagement, and narrative impact.
    • Negotiate and manage media partnerships in line with ANF’s mission and positioning.

    Digital Strategy & Execution

    • Own ANF’s digital strategy, ensuring a clear, coherent, and effective presence across social, web, and email channels.
    • Oversee digital campaigns with clear objectives, audiences, timelines, and success metrics.
    • Ensure digital activity is insight-led, well coordinated, and focused on quality, relevance, and impact rather than volume.
    • Use AI and digital tools to improve content planning, workflow efficiency, audience insight, performance tracking, and reporting.

    Content, Social & Influencer Oversight

    • Oversee content development across platforms, ensuring consistency of voice, quality, and narrative intent.
    • Guide social media strategy and performance, working closely with the team responsible for day-to-day execution.
    • Manage influencer and creator engagement in collaboration with internal teams, ensuring relevance and strategic fit.

    Leadership & Team Management

    • Lead, manage, and develop a small communications / digital team.
    • Set clear priorities, workflows, and deliverables, ensuring responsiveness and accountability whilst building a team spirit
    • Work closely with project teams to support campaigns, partnerships, and organisational objectives.

    Skills, Experience & Qualifications

    Essential

    • 10+ years’ experience in communications, PR, or digital strategy, with strong agency background.
    • Proven track record delivering campaigns and PR solutions that achieved visible, measurable results.
    • Excellent media relationships across Africa.
    • Strong understanding of digital strategy and the intersection between traditional media, social, and advocacy.
    • Experience leading teams and managing complex workflows.
    • Excellent writing, editorial judgment, and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience working across multiple African countries or regions.
    • Familiarity with narrative change, advocacy, or mission-driven organisations.

    Technology & AI

    • Highly comfortable working with digital platforms and tools.
    • Curious, confident, and proactive in exploring AI-enabled solutions to improve workflows, insight, content development, monitoring, and delivery.
    • Able to translate technology into practical, usable systems rather than complexity.

    Personal Attributes

    • Entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and solutions-focused
    • Highly responsive and delivery-driven
    • Strategic thinker who executes decisively
    • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
    • Calm under pressure and comfortable with ambiguity
    • Aligned with Africa No Filter’s mission and values
