Consultant for Avocado Cold Chain and Packhouse at TRUK Rwanda

TRUK Rwanda is seeking to recruit a consultant specialized in cold chain, setting up avocado export businesses in East Africa, and market linkages with international buyers. 

Introduction:

TRUK Rwanda provides logistics solutions for farmers, businesses, and importers/exporters. Our mission is to optimize Rwanda’s food supply chain by offering cold storage and logistics solutions, reducing post-harvest loss, and connecting farmers to markets. We have a fleet of trucks and cold rooms in Rwanda. We are adding a packhouse to export avocados.

Key Tasks:

Kindly note we are looking for consultants to cover these different areas. You are welcome to apply if you only fit a couple of the criteria, as we can work with several consultants. We are based in Kigali, and the work can be done remotely from Kenya. If for some of the tasks you need to be in-person, add those costs to your bid (travel costs eg flights). 

• Technical Assistance for Infrastructure Development
  • Provide support in the procurement and design of a modern fresh produce packhouse, including a warehouse, cold storage, and other needed equipment. This also includes rural 1st mile cold rooms.
• Certification and Compliance for Export Markets
  • Help us achieve Global G.A.P., GRASP, and SMETA certifications. Design internal audits and coordinate external audits.
• 3. Training and Capacity Building
  •  Train directors and senior management, packhouse staff, cold room staff, farmers on export standards of avocados, operating cold rooms, operating solar, and running a packhouse
• 4. Market Linkages
  • Connect us with reliable customers to buy fresh produce in the EU, Middle East, and Asia. Negotiate long-term supply contracts.
• 5. Commercial and Operational Advisory Services
  • Offer market pricing analysis in export markets. Advice on supply chain planning to maintain high quality and reliable supply.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree (required)
• Master’s Degree (preferred)

Experience required:

5+ years in relevant roles at companies and/or advising companies as an external consultant
