    Consultant for Developing a Business Plan

    Specifically, the consultant will:

    • Review of relevant literature on puree development and other sweetpotato processed products.
    • Meeting with relevant CIP scientists at an inception meeting to clarify expectations, review draft workplan and discuss any anticipated challenges.
    • Adapt research instruments for conducting the financial analyses and updated business cases in Kenya and Rwanda and market analysis in Rwanda.
    • Conduct interviews with relevant food technologists and agro-processors in Kenya and Rwanda.
    • Review of regulatory environment and health regulations and tax requirements in Kenya.
    • Write-up of preliminary financial analysis in Kenya for six cases.  Include sensitivity analysis of varying wheat flour and fresh root sweetpotato prices.
    • Assessment of market size, opportunities for sweetpotato processed products, competitive products, and regulatory structure in Rwanda.

    Deliverables

    • Proposed workplan and data instruments for collection information from stakeholders.
    • Preliminary financial analyses for sweetpotato products in Kenya.
    • First Draft of the comprehensive study report.
    • Revised draft of the comprehensive study report and the 4-page brief approved by CIP.

    Requirements

    • MBA or Master’s in applied economics.
    • Minimum 10 years of experience doing financial analysis for agro-processing companies and constructing a business case for investment.
    • Expertise in developing business plans, including detailed financial analysis, for agro-processing enterprises, both small and large-scale.
    • Knowledge of the East and Central African regulatory environment concerning agro-processing companies (tax structure and health requirements).
    • Experience in identifying and analyzing potential market segments.
    • Excellent research and writing skills in English required.
    • Good speaking knowledge of Kiswahili and/or Kinyarwanda preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of all MS Office 2010 or 2013 applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
