Purpose of consultancy
To provide technical expertise on trans and gender diverse health and technical guidance to WHO throughout the development of the WHO Guidelines and implementation.
Deliverables
Task 1: Provide specialized technical expertise to systematic review teams.
- Deliverable 1.1: Review draft protocols and list of included studies with comments and suggestions.
- Deliverable 1.2: Review and provide comments on the draft list of included studies conducted by the review teams.
- Deliverable 1.3: Review final systematic review reports, evidence to decision making tables and PowerPoint presentations for the Guideline Development Group (GDG).
Timeframe: 1 February -1 August 2023.
Task 2: Map hormones therapies used for gender affirming care in international, national guidelines, professional associations (for example WPATH, EUPATH etc.) as well as published peer review literature.
- Deliverable 2.1: Final mapping protocol incorporating comments from the WHO technical team.
- Deliverable 2.2: Short narrative report.
- Deliverable 2.3: Power point presentation.
Timeframe: 1 February - 1 August 2023.
Task 3: Comprehensive review of draft guideline narrative.
- Deliverable 3.1: Review draft guidelines with comments and suggestions (up to three iterations) and final version.
Timeframe: 1 December 2023.
Task 4: Overarching specialized technical expertise to the WHO Steering Group for the development of the Guidelines on the health of trans and gender diverse people.
- Deliverable 4.1: Quarterly short report (bullets) of the technical expertise provided to the SG (including participation on calls and technical questions responded to).
Timeframes:1 February 2023; 1 May 2023; 1 August 2023; 1 December 2023.
Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
Educational Qualifications:
Essential:
- Advanced university degree in medicine.
Desirable:
- A post-graduate qualification in public health or any health sciences or related field.
Experience
Essential:
- Over 10 years’ experience working on issues related to the health of trans and gender diverse people, in both a research and service delivery capacity; in particular, experience with providing gender-affirming care.
- Experience working at an international level.
- Demonstrated experience in writing of technical documents and/or guidelines.
Desirable:
- Broad work experience with the following as they relate to the health of trans and gender diverse people: health worker training and education, reduction and/or prevention of inter-personal violence, stigma and discrimination, mental health conditions, health policy and gender recognition laws.
- Experience in WHO guidelines development.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Global knowledge of health needs, barriers and solutions to accessing health services for trans and gender diverse populations.
- Strong analytical and critical appraisal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
