    Corporate Communications Officer

    Key Responsibilities

    • Create best-in-class PR processes to be utilized across MRM, Safal MRM Foundation and Safal Group HQ to drive a consistent approach to public relations
    • Develop, plan, implement and monitor the overall external communications strategy for MRM, Safal MRM Foundation and Safal Group HQ
    • Ensure that MRM is seen as an industry thought and innovation leader by telling its story through its brands, corporate and ESG stories.
    • Drive the narrative of moving to a Building Solutions Company from a roofing one.
    • Work with the Brand Teams to drive brand equity and value proposition with customers for existing and new brands.
    • Create informative content, press releases, articles and media opportunities to share MRM’s, Safal MRM Foundation’s and Safal Group HQ’s brands, products and services.
    • Directly or through a PR agency, develop and manage relationships with key media players to secure and grow media coverage through traditional and digital media.
    • Directly or through a PR agency prepare detailed media activity reports.
    • Work with the Head of Marketing and MRM CEO to respond to external communication-related issues promptly.
    • Work with the Head of Marketing to ensure the allocation of a PR budget and be responsible for the tracking and spending of that budget.
    • Manage change management communications to external stakeholders.
    • Field media questions and pitch stories to the media
    • Oversee preparation of media kits, press releases, preparation of articles for newsletters and organisation of press conferences.
    • Manage the release of information to counter negative publicity and handle crisis and emergency communications.
    • Collaborate with External Affairs teams to help create awareness on sub-standard and illicit trade issues with key stakeholders by executing a multifaceted plan targeting government, consumers, influencers and stakeholders

    Foundation

    • Develop and execute communication strategy for the Foundation while ensuring the activities of the foundation and MRM are merged together for the mutual benefit of both
    • Support the corporate communication needs of the foundation e.g. annual reports, promotional materials
    • Position Safal Eye in the Wild (SEIW) and Safal-Cornel Kiswahili Prize as brands to ensure longevity and TOMA.
    • Manage the operational execution of SEIW & Kiswahili prize while collaborating with the regional teams
    • Coordinate PR activities of the Foundation

    Group Office

    • Proactively consolidate stories (Business, Brand, ESG) from different parts of the company to showcase Safal Group as a Pan African Building solutions company.
    • Proactively work closely with Digital to ensure Safal Groups Social Media pages including the Group Website are constantly updated with the latest and hottest content.
    • Work with the PR agency to find relevant interview opportunities for Group officers especially the CEO. Manage the annual preparation and procurement of Annual Calendars, Diaries etc. for staff and business partners.

    Requirements

    Qualifications required:

    Minimum academic qualification: 

    • A degree-level qualification, preferably in Media and Communications /Marketing and PR / Journalism/ business administration/development studies

    Experience required:

    • 2- 3 years experience within the communication space: PR / media / digital /Eventing
    • 1-2 years experience within NGO/corporate philanthropy and sustainable development sector

    Industry: Non-Profit Sector/ Public Relations / Media and communications

    Key competencies and skills:

    • Strong leadership and influencing skills: Able to work with and influence senior management on a day-to-day basis.
    • A team player with self-drive in providing solutions to demanding tasks with tight deadlines.
    • Strong execution skills.
    • A strategic problem-solver capable of steering cross-functional collaborations and producing high-quality deliverables.
    • Proven experience in public relations, event planning and project coordination.
    • Must be creative and possess creative writing skills.
    • Strong research and analytical capabilities; able to think strategically about opportunities to advance the Foundation’s advocacy work around Education, Health, Environment, and Shelter.
    • Collaborative, innovative, eager to learn, and interested in creating and executing strategies while working alongside partners.
    • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and CMS.
