Department of Surgery Registrar/Instructor, Outreach Division at Aga Khan University (AKU)

Outreach Division, AKUH, N Medical centers, feature consulting rooms with a practice that is home to qualified Medical Officers, highly-experienced nurses, Dental, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, Dental, Specialty Clinics as well as constant reception cover.

Responsibilities

• The Department of Surgery Instructor/Registrar will be responsible for the running of general surgery clinics with both preoperative and post-op care plans and will also provide clinical care to patients and emergency support to ensure timely and optimal delivery of quality patient care.  
• He/she shall contribute to maintenance of evidence based and effective practice delivery by the clinical team. He/she will also provide supervision and support for junior medical staff co-located within specific outreach centres with period report of activities expected. The instructor will additionally provide on call coverage for the main hospital and will also attend and assist in major cases that s/he may refer to the main hospital.  
• The incumbent will also liaise with the quality advisor, manager outreach, Chair-Department of Surgery as well as other administrative support to fulfil the requirements of this position.

Requirements

• Master of Medicine in General Surgery or successful completion of a residency in General Surgery
• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
• Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
• Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (BLS & ACLS)
