Deputy Director, Buildings Inspection and Audit at State Department for Public Works

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

• served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Assistant Director, Built Environment Services, CSG  7  or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service;
• a Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Quantity Survey, Design, Urban and Regional Planning, Building Economics or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
• registered by a relevant and recognized professional body (where applicable);
• demonstrated professional competence and managerial skills as reflected in work performance and result.

Duties and Responsibilities

• An officer at this level may be deployed either at the Headquarters or in the Regional Office. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
• working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in reviewing and  ensuring implementation of national built environment inspection policies, strategies, programmes, procedures, guidelines and regulations; 
• supervising preparations of standard inspection manuals and templates for use by relevant agencies;
• working with multi-sectoral agencies in conducting pre-inspection, inspection and post inspection of built environment structures; 
• engaging relevant agencies in conducting continuous and periodic safety health inspections of built environment structures;
• working with relevant stakeholders involved in search, rescue and evacuation missions; 
• supervising research work and promoting benchmark studies with other institutions to keep abreast with emerging trends in built environment inspection issues; and 
• maintaining the national built environment inspection electronic database.
