    Drone Project Principal Investigator

    Job Summary/Objective

    • A 1 year contract (renewable) to oversee STE’s Drone Project and produce cutting-edge research using this new platform in collaboration with STE’s scientific and field teams

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist in developing individual work programs for the project
    • Plan and execute work programs in collaboration with existing STE team and assets, to an agreed timeline
    • Collaborate with different elements of our scientific and field teams to collect, store, and analyse data from field deployments
    • Provide weekly verbal updates and monthly written updates on progress
    • Lead and contribute to the production of peer-reviewed scientific publications, reviews and reports, in collaboration with STE & partner researchers

    Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD or Masters degree in behavioural science
    • Experience of using video-based data for research an advantage
    • Experience of working with Machine Learning an advantage
    • Track record of peer-reviewed publications an advantage

    Key Competencies

    • Experience of design and management of complex workflows
    • Ability to adapt to challenging circumstances and situations

    Performance Expectations

    • A detailed work plan, deliverables and timeline will be developed in collaboration with the PI and team

    Working Conditions

    • The position will be based at our research camp in Samburu National Reserve, Northern Kenya
    • Researcher will be housed in an ample tent in the camp, with outside shower
    • There will be occasional need to travel to Nairobi and Tsavo, for which costs will be covered

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Compensation commensurate with experience
    • All costs while in the field are covered
    • 27 days of leave a year
