Electrician at Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKESK)

Role Summary

• Undertake a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure. S/He should be able to maintain well-functioning electrical connections to minimize the probability of accidents and maximize usability of electricity within the school facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify any issues that may require repair or maintenance.
• Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems.
• Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
• Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
• Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them.
• Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
• Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units
• Keep the Facilities Manager or Head Teacher informed of any potential risks and recommend alleviation plans.
• Continuous power connectivity with seamless interchange during blackouts.
• 24-hour turnaround on rectification of any major electrical breakdown to ensure operations within the school is not disrupted. 
• Existence of an analysis of continuous faults and rectification, periodic maintenance of all electrical appliances, motors, transformers, and instrumentation. This is proactive maintenance and should be carried out on a daily basis.
• Availability of spares:  your job will also include maintaining and procuring spare parts as required.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Diploma/Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in industrial/commercial electrical systems.
• Learning institution experience would be an added advantage.
• At least 2 years’ experience.
