    GBV Caseworker

    Reporting to: Gender and GBV Program Manager 

    Liases with: Project Officer

    Grade: 5

    Duration: 10.5 months with possibility of renewal subject to availability of funding and performance

    HIAS Kenya seeks to recruit a GBV case worker to implement a project entitled ‘Strengthening community-based protection for victims of torture in Nairobi and Mombasa’. The project seeks to contribute to:

    1. Improving the mental health and well-being of refugee victims of torture including LGBTQ persons,
    2. Strengthening community-based legal protection and facilitating access to durable solution for refugees’ victims of torture.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Provide comprehensive individual case management for victims of torture resulting from GBV.received at HIAS offices and those identified within the refugee community
    2. Conduct field visits for case assessments in coordination with other HIAS staff and keep track of socio-environmental risks faced by victims of torture resulting from GBV
    3. Map out service support structures in the community to support urban refugee victims of torture resulting from GBV.
    4. Process referrals for support services for victims of torture resulting from GBV to other agencies.
    5. Conduct timely follow up on referrals and support services provided to victims of torture resulting from GBV
    6. Implement and monitor merit based social and financial assistance informed by vulnerability assessments in individual cases in accordance with HIAS’ Standard Operating Procedures
    7. • Ensure regular updates in the Gender Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS)and submit assessments and case study forms for victims of torture resulting from GBV.
    8. Evaluate beneficiaries’ progress and work on strategies aimed at supporting client’s self-reliance.
    9. Prepare a monthly analysis on key issues based on case trends to disseminate information on services available and referral pathways
    10. Contribute to the development of project proposal, concept notes and sector publications
    11. Mainstream accountability throughout the project cycle and in daily roles.
    12. Perform other duties as and when required.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Community Development Studies and/or other related fields of study.

    Desirable Experiences

    1. Minimum of 1-2 years’ previous job experience related to GBV response.
    2. Demonstrated experience working directly with refugee victims of torture resulting from GBV
    3. MUST have a demonstrated understanding of a survivor-centered approach.
    4. MUST have experience with operationalizing GBV principles, knowledge of international humanitarian standards for GBV prevention and response.

    Required Skills and Competences

    1. Proficiency in English and Swahili
    2. Computer literacy is a must, with strong knowledge of Access, Excel and Word
    3. Ability to work in a team, maintain confidentiality and respect for diversity, uphold integrity, respect, and accountability
    4. Self-starter with an ability to work with minimal supervision in a culturally diverse team
    5. Excellent Analytical, Communication and Report writing skills
    6. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with local staff, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders
    7. Ability to maintain one’s composure while under pressure
    8. Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations is an added advantage
    9. Knowledge of PSEA
