    Intern- Environment Affairs Research I

    Responsibilities

    • Under the direct supervision of the Africa Regional Coordinator for Environmental Law and Governance the intern will:
    • Assist the UNEP Africa Office and other relevant UNEP Divisions with developing a legal research paper on environmental aspects of mineral resource governance, particularly sand and sand mining in Africa
    • Assist the Africa Office, under the auspices of a project of the UNEP Law Division, with developing a legal research paper on procedural environmental rights in Africa
    • Assist the Africa Office, under the auspices of a project of the UNEP Law Division, with preparations for the launch and roll out of a forthcoming publication on the environmental rule of law
    • Assist with tasks related to the implementation of the United Nations Environment Assembly resolution 5/12 on the environmental aspects of minerals and metals management, particularly in preparation for an Africa regional intergovernmental consultation on the resolution
    • Assist the Africa Office in the implementation of other tasks related to environmental law and governance

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

    Education

    • An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in Environmental Law, Environmental Policy or International Law is required.

    Work Experience

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    • Undergraduate or graduate degree in law (LLB/post graduate diploma in law). Specialization in environmental law, environmental policy, or international law is required.
