Internal Medicine Registrar at Mater Hospital

Position Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Director Medical Services, the Internal Medicine Registrar shall be responsible for provision of appropriate care to in-patients and public out-patients visiting the Unit

Main Duties

•  Provision of a consultative service for patients under other units or departments
•  Ensure supervision for junior medical officers and to provide support for the senior medical staff in the care of the Unit/Department’s patients
•  Review and manage referred patients at A & E.and the medical centres as may be needed
•  In liaison with the Consultants conduct ward rounds and review all in-patients at the wards
•  Facilitate the timely admission and discharge of all patients in accordance with hospital policy
•  Review all investigation results in a timely manner, and to ensure all prescribing is undertaken with utmost care
•  Regular attendance both in-hours and out-of-hours according to manning charts or rosters
•  Assist management in drawing up and implementing policies and procedures for the department
•  Ensure that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up
•  Participation in the relevant department/unit quality activities programs and meetings
•  Be responsive to patient and relatives’ complaints, liaising with appropriate senior staff and the patient advocate
•  Participate in Cardiac Missions, research, CMES, Audits, mortality meetings, and grand rounds within the department

Required Qualifications for the Position

•  BSc. Medicine & Surgery
•  Post graduate qualification-(Mmed)-Internal medicine
•  Registered with KMPDB
•  Ability to train and develop staff
