    Junior Designer

    • We are seeking a Junior Designer who will play a key role in our innovative product development team. 
    • The ideal candidate will assist in the discovery phase, collect user requirements, and conduct market research to inform product development decisions. You will create comprehensive user journeys to address specific user needs and utilize design software to wireframe and develop high-quality product prototypes. 
    • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product design and development, is an essential part of the role to ensure the timely delivery of top-quality products to the market.

    Responsibilities

    • User Requirement Gathering: ​​
    • Must be able to carry out brainstorming sessions with the team to discuss how certain features could be improved and/or implemented
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to assist in gathering user requirements and translating them into actionable insights for product development
    • Market Research: 
    • Conduct thorough market research to inform product development strategies and stay updated on industry trends
    • User Journey Mapping: 
    • Create detailed user journeys that address specific user needs and pain points, ensuring a user-centric approach to product design
    • Prototype Development: 
    • Utilize design software to wireframe and develop high-quality product prototypes for evaluation and iteration
    • User Validation: 
    • Test and validate prototypes with users to gather feedback and insights for refinement
    • Template Creation: 
    • Develop and maintain templates for various products within the organization to streamline the design proces
    • Documentation: 
    • Document the design process, decisions, and outcomes to maintain a record of product development activities
    • Quality Assurance: 
    • Support product development efforts to ensure that products meet high-quality standards and align with organizational goals
    • Cross-functional collaboration: 
    • Collaborate closely with the product design and development team to conceptualize and design innovative products
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure products are delivered on time and adhere to the highest quality standards
    • Being a team player, understanding the business goals and having the drive to actualize the business goals within and outside the current skills one may currently possess
    • Timely Delivery:
    • Coordinating your work to ensure that delivery of work is based on the team's, clients' and stakeholders' expectations and within sprint duration
    • Assist the Office of the Chief Product Officer (CPO) in conceptualizing and designing innovative products across different departments
    • Active participant in the daily standups with a clear understanding of the design requirements and the ability to clearly communicate the progress being made with one's tasks
    • Knowledge
    • Bachelor’s degree in a Design-related field or a similar discipline-related field
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or engineering
    • Bachelor's degree in Business or Marketing
    • Certifications - in relevant areas such as User Experience (UX) Design, Product Management, or Design Thinking can enhance a candidate's qualification

    Experience

    • Experience working as a design intern, design assistant, or junior designer in a relevant field.
    • Demonstrable design work, including projects related to product design, user interface (UI) design, user experience (UX) design, or relevant coursework assignments, with a strong portfolio showcasing the work
    • Proficiency with design software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Sketch, Figma, Canva or other design and prototyping tools.
    • Exposure to user research methods and the ability to assist with user requirements gathering and analysis
    • Exposure to software development concepts and practices is an added advantage
    • Experience collaborating with software developers on projects, demonstrating the ability to bridge the gap between design and development teams is an added advantage

    Skills

    • The ideal candidate for this position should have the following:
    • Familiarity with fundamental design principles, including colour theory, typography, layout, and user interface (UI) design principles exposure to user research methods and the ability to assist with user requirements gathering and analysis
    • Core knowledge of design thinking - validation, discovery, prototyping, plus also have 1-2 years of applied experience 
    • Competency in project coordination and stakeholder management
    • A creative mindset with the ability to conceptualize and design innovative products
    • Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask
    • Basic ability of design documentation skills to maintain records of the design process, decisions and outcomes 
    • Attention to detail
    • Professional and proactive work ethic
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong willingness to learn, be adaptable and flexible to support multiple departmental projects and adapt to evolving priorities
    • A grasp of software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum, as well as an understanding of the software development lifecycle is an added advantage
