Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of this consultancy is to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration’s growing movement of Lead Agencies, Global Partners, Supporting Partners, Restoration Implementers and affiliated entities and individuals through a digital hub. The consultant will provide community management and content creation support to the digital hub and through it, the UN Decade’s growing base of supporters.
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer for the UN Decade within the Communications Division, and in close collaboration with the Chief of Pubic Advocacy and Outreach, and the Head of the Nature for Climate Branch, the consultant will perform a number of specialized tasks that contribute to the successful launch of the UN Decade digital hub, including writing and editing of texts and improving editorial processes and display of information, setup and launch of its UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration Digital Hub. As directed, the consultant will need to consult closely with other UN Decade partners, restoration implementers, and with members of the Ecosystems Division and UNEP as a whole.
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer for the UN Decade, the consultant will:
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international relations, ; or in a subject-matter related to ecosystem restoration, such as environmental management, economics, environmental policy or environmental sciences or any other related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in public communications is required, e.g. journalism or publication management (this can be prior to Master’s degree in environmental management). In addition, the consultant should be results-oriented and diligent, as well as autonomous and computer literate in standard software applications; have excellent writing and communication skills; good analytical skills with an interest in the topic of ecosystem restoration and climate change; have good interpersonal skills. It is essential that the chosen candidate can work in an independent manner to complete the given assignments.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this assignment, fluency in written and spoken English is required.
