Laterite is an African research firm specialized in research for social impact. We strive to carry out impactful research that helps decision-makers find solutions to complex development problems. Our approach is structured, data intensive and embedded in the local context. Founded in East Africa, we work with universities, global think tanks, international NGOs, multilateral donor organizations, and government ministries and agencies. We focus on work with the potential to make an impact in the sectors of education, public health, youth & livelihoods, urbanization & migration, and agriculture, with gender and social protection as cross-cutting themes.

Context

• Laterite is a consultancy firm with offices in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and the Netherlands. Our teams bring together more than 80 full time staff, as well as more than 2,000 enumerators across countries, in a dynamic work environment. We are proud to be a culturally diverse organization.
• We have grown substantially over the past year, and we are looking to improve the style and professionalism of our external-facing outputs with the support of a graphic designer. We are looking for an experienced freelance designer to engage for this purpose and with whom we hope to build an ongoing working relationship.

Your profile

• Experience working as a freelance designer with a demonstrated ability to work independently to meet deadlines
• Experience using desktop publishing software to produce sharp, professional and attractive outputs that conform to a company style
• Experience working for companies with a social mission
• Experience working in East or West Africa a plus.

The Job

We are seeking to engage a freelance graphic designer to work with us on a number of discrete design projects throughout the year. We would expect to work with the designer on the following deliverables throughout the year:

• Design and layout of our company pitch deck
• Design of 3 different social media asset designs for LinkedIn and Twitter that we can update in Canva to promote our blogs, case studies, team achievements, job ads, etc.
• An editable infographic template to showcase our year-end results each year
• Layout & design services for 5-6 full research reports (30+ pages plus annexes) per year
• Layout & design services to design 4 policy briefs (8-12 pages) per year
• Other comparable ad hoc tasks, to be discussed and agreed depending on availability.
