    Learning Support Teacher

    Role Summary

    The Learning Support Teacher will be responsible for supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students within the school. The role of the Learning Support Teacher is to identify, assess, support, monitor, and evaluate students’ specific learning needs. He/she will predominantly work with students who have mild-moderate learning needs. He/She will work closely with classroom teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and assess students to meet the varying needs of students within our school. He/She will play a pivotal role in developing collaborative relationships with administrators, teachers, and parents to create individual learning plans with clearly articulated goals and strategies. Together with the administration and other teachers, he/she will provide direct instruction for students with learning needs using a strong differentiation model.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Assess students’ abilities and learning requirements and craft teaching plans.
    2. Find engaging activities to teach skills and adapt learning materials to students’ needs.
    3. Keep track of and reflect on students’ progress.
    4. Design Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for children with learning needs.
    5. Monitor children’s behavioural patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed.
    6. Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict.
    7. Collaborate with teachers and parents to track students’ progress.
    8. Inform parents about their children’s performance and potential problems.
    9. Establish and maintain a record of completed planners.
    10. Ensure that essential agreements for all areas are formulated in collaboration with the staff.

    REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

    1. Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role
    2. Diploma in special education certificate
    3. Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate if in Kenya
    4. Certificate of good conduct
    5. Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies
    6. Experience working with children with a wide range of abilities
    7. Ability to create Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs)
    8. A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality
    9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    10. Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative team and environment
    11. Be conversant with the use of technology as a teaching and learning tool
