    Local Consultant; Graphic Designer for the Office of the Chief Justice (Kenya)

    • The graphic designer will (in coordination with other relevant Judiciary personnel), provide graphic design and layout services which will include the design and layout of formal publications, display products, IEC materials as well as web and social media content consistent with the Judiciary’s visual and corporate identity stipulated in the organization’s strategic and communication documents and guidelines.  
    • The graphic designer may also be required to prepare or develop similar content for related/collaborating national partners.  
    • All material prepared by the graphic designer for the Judiciary or other national partner shall belong to and remain the property of UNODC.
    • The contractor shall not use such documents or software for purposes unrelated to this contract, without the prior written approval of UNODC.  
    • The graphic designer will operate from Nairobi. He / she will be provided with working space within the Judiciary.  
    • The contractor is expected to have their own laptop computer as well as necessary software for the assignment.    

    Specific Tasks to be performed by the Consultant  Under the overall supervision of the Regional Representative in the UNODC Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) and the direct supervision of the UNODC ROEA Head of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme, and in close cooperation and consultation with the Programme Officer, the consultants/staff who developed the documents, the consultant will perform the following substantive duties and responsibilities:  

    • Design Visual Summaries:  Create visual summaries of each chapter of the STAJ blueprint to make complex legal and administrative content more accessible.
    • Ensure the design and layout are engaging, professional, and aligned with the judiciary’s brand guidelines.  

    Develop Infographics:  

    • Design infographics that present key statistics, goals, and outcomes from the STAJ blueprint in a visually engaging manner.
    • Collaborate with DPOP and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of data and the clarity of messaging.  

    Social Media Graphics:  

    • Design graphics for social media campaigns, including images and banners for various platforms.
    • Ensure that these materials are shareable and eye-catching to increase the reach of STAJ messages.

    Workshop and Webinar Materials:

    • Create visually appealing presentations for webinars and workshops that will be conducted as part of the STAJ sensitization efforts.
    • Ensure that these materials are informative and easy to follow for participants.

    Video Graphics:  

    • Work in collaboration with the video production team to design motion graphics, lower thirds, and other visual elements for the video series.

    Progress Reports and Impact Assessment Graphics:  

    • Design visual elements for progress reports and impact assessment reports that reflect the progress and results achieved through STAJ implementation.
    • Work closely with the Communication Officer and judiciary officials to ensure the accuracy and comprehensibility of these materials. 

    Website and Online Forum Elements:  

    • Design graphical elements for the project website and online discussion forums. 
    • Ensure that the design aligns with the project’s overall branding.  

    Public Testimonial Visuals:  
    Create visuals for public testimonials, which will include photographs, stories, and supporting graphical elements. Maintain sensitivity to the privacy and dignity of individuals featured in the testimonials.


    • Qualifications/special skills
    • An advanced university (Master or equivalent) degree in computer science, graphic design, visual arts, illustration, or a related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
    • At least 02 years of professional graphic design and multimedia experience is required.
    • Experience in providing communications support in the justice sector e.g. in the design of IEC materials, infographics and other communication tools for publicity campaigns is required.
    • Experience working with advanced design software and applications is required e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw and tools such as Dreamweaver and Flash etc. is required.
    • Experience in developing and applying visual identities for programmes and/or campaigns is desirable.
    • Work experience with the Judiciary of Kenya is desirable.
    • Experience developing infographics and social media graphics is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations Secretariat languages is an advantage.
