    Manager - Major Projects

    Purpose of the Position

    Infrastructure is the foundation that enables everything we do today – from roads, schools, hospitals, power water and sewerage to the buildings in our cities. Demand for infrastructure is rising with the accelerating pace of globalisation and urbanisation. The infrastructure gap in Africa constrains economic growth and leaves the most vulnerable without access to basic services.

    At KPMG, we have a market-leading Infrastructure team that helps clients manage and optimise their physical assets from strategy, planning, business cases, funding and financing through to construction and operations as well as deal advisory, legal structuring and tax advisory to build, buy and/or sell assets.

In line with this vision, the Infrastructure Advisory leadership team is seeking an individual with 10+ years of experience in real estate, construction and/or infrastructure project management and/or transaction advisory services, including business case development and feasibility studies, through to construction procurement, contract management, project financing and project delivery.

    This individual will be part of the management team leading our Major Projects Advisory (MPA) services practice in the delivery of highquality services to top tier public and private sector clients by bringing his/her advisory expertise to the team. He/she will be responsible for assisting with delivery of major real estate, capital and/or infrastructure projects, including those for government, private sector and development partners. Infrastructure sub-sectors include transport, water, power and utilities, cities, construction, real estate and social infrastructure.

    Key roles and responsibilities:

    • The individual will assist the leadership team in day-to-day engagement management on specific projects and will:
      • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to senior associates and associate team members.
      • Develop and present client materials including status reports, project reports, and presentations.
      • Monitor budgets, schedules, work quality, scope, and client deliverables.
      • Contribute to hands-on delivery of projects and programs which may include programme design and development; benefits and quality management; stakeholder management; portfolio management; programme and project planning including milestone management; and risk and issue management.
      • Integral to delivering these responsibilities will be PMO Management, financial management; maintaining risks, issues, assumptions, actions log; resource forecasting; dependency management; and programme reporting.
      • Work individually and with different teams of the firm to improve our profile in the infrastructure sector market (through involvement in industry groups, thought leadership, speaking engagements)
      • Establish and develop a network of stakeholders in the infrastructure sector (authorities, regulators, financial institutions, investment funds, developers, contractors, technical advisers, and legal advisers etc.)
      • Lead and support in business development activities
      • Provide project strategy and development analysis in some or all of the following areas:
        • Capital Programme and/or Project Management
        • Infrastructure planning and strategy
        • Feasibility, business case, and market analysis
        • Procurement options analysis and managing procurement processes
        • Project risk assessment
        • Project governance and project management frameworks
        • Contract management
        • Coordinating legal, financial, and/or technical teams
        • Project implementation advice through design and construction
        • Project controls; Resource planning and PMO management
        • Communication
        • Decision making

    Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree (combined with a Master's degree, preferred but not required).
    • Professional registration within the built environment and/or project management qualifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or other similar certification.
    • Project feasibility, options appraisal, and/or project structuring experience.
    • Project procurement experience through to financial close.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction, real estate, infrastructure project management, and/or infrastructure consulting.
