    Managing Director – AFRINUETS (U463)

    Job Purpose
    You will be responsible for the strategic direction of AFRINUETS, and working in close collaboration with ANU, for the identification of new revenue streams as well as the commercialization of the existing business functions across the university. A critical aspect of the role will be collaborating, establishing, and developing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities
    We are looking for a passionate, experienced, and professional individual with an entrepreneurial mindset with proven ability to provide strategic guidance, develop the necessary structures and identify and lead a team towards development and sustainability of a solid Company. You will provide leadership, strategic direction, and oversight in the setting up of operations, management, and delivery of the AFRINUETS’s activities in line with the University’s corporate objectives and philosophy.

    More specifically you will:

    1. In partnership with the AFRINUETS’s Board, lead the development of the overall strategy for the establishment and growth of the Company. This will include the business strategy and financial planning for new revenue streams as well as research, consultancy, and training services
    2. Lead in the implementation of the approved strategic and financial plans and monitor progress against these plans to ensure that the company attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible
    3. Ensure effective development and operation of frameworks, policies and procedures relating to knowledge exchange and enterprise.
    4. Provide advisory to the executive management team, council members and Board to include monthly and quarterly update reports that depict an accurate view of the market as well as company’s future.
    5. Develop and maintain Total Quality Management systems throughout the company to ensure that the best possible products and services are provided to customers.
    6. Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor the implementation to ensure that budget targets are met, that revenue flows are maximized, and fixed costs are managed.
    7. Develop, nurture and lead on key strategic relationships with major customers, relevant government departments and other stakeholders in a bid to ensure the company is providing the appropriate range and quality of services.
    8. Provide oversight and support the incorporation of subsidiaries and special purpose companies.
    9. Lead in negotiations with customers, suppliers, government departments and other key contacts to secure the most effective contract terms.
    10. Ensure innovativeness by crafting cost effective programs and initiatives aimed at ensuring that the company maintains its competitive edge and remains competitive in the market.
    11. Keep abreast of the emerging trends in industry and ensure that the appropriate policies are developed to meet the company’s mission and objectives and ensure compliance to relevant statutory and other regulations. Provide advisory on consumption to ensure that the offerings remain relevant.
    12. Develop and implement an effective marketing and public relations strategy to promote the products, services, and image of the company in the wider community.

    Job Qualifications

    1. Master’s degree in a business-related field such as Marketing, Business Development, Entrepreneurship, Finance and Accounting, Strategic Management, etc.
    2. Relevant professional qualification with valid membership of a professional body.
    3. Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience, with at least six (6) years in a senior managerial position.
    4. Demonstrated ability to manage strategy development execution, strong presentation design and business modeling skills.
    5. An entrepreneurial mindset with a high level of commercial awareness, as well as financial acumen.
    6. Business development experience in a start-up or management consultancy.
    7. Ability to sell the vision of the university.
    8. Executive disposition and demonstrate high levels of integrity and values.
    9. Possess an inquisitive mind, focused on addressing the root causes of problems and building interventions to address them.
    10. Analytical and strong problem-solving abilities, anticipates future opportunities, evaluates risks, takes initiative, drives for results, sets priorities, communicates problems, and proposes solutions, as appropriate
