Masonry/Plumbing Handyman at Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKESK)

Role Summary.

• Responsible for installing masonry blocks and other related building materials, mixing cement and mortar, and restoring old and damaged masonry works. In addition, must have some experience performing repairs on different piping systems, unblocking drains, fixing leaks, installing pipes and general plumbing duties. 

Key Responsibilities.

• Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify any issues that may require repair or maintenance of the building fabric.
• Review and execute job orders daily.
• Restoring old and worn-out masonry.
• Construct new masonry walls and paving slabs/cabro blocks.
• Repair of plasterwork.
• Painting structures.
• Repair of stormwater /drainage manholes and assist in cleaning and unblocking respectively.
• Assist in diagnosis of plumbing problems and perform repairs.
• Assist to Install, assemble, maintain, and repair pipes and plumbing fixtures.
• Asist in general plumbing including unblocking toilets, unblocking stacks and, pipework (PPR or PVC)
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections carried out.
• Manage inventory of repair supplies and equipment and ensure that all stocks are replenished as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment at all times.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience

• Artisan Certificate in Masonry/plumbing.
• Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar role
• Excellent knowledge of Masonry and a bit of plumbing
• Able to read and follow technical drawings.
• Communication Proficiency and computer skills.
• Familiarity with commonly used masonry/plumbing techniques, tools, equipment and materials
• Ability to work flexibly and adjust schedules to meet the needs of the facility
• Learning institution experience would be an added advantage.
