    Medical Safety Manager

    Role Purpose:

    Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children, celebrating its 100 years in 2019 as a US$2bn dollar organisation with 25,000 staff in 117 countries – health and nutrition programs being the largest component of its global activity.

    One of our 2030 Ambitions is to inspire a breakthrough for child survival – that no child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday. This role will play an instrumental role in contributing to achieving this breakthrough by contributing to strengthen Save the Children’s medical services globally. 

    As a core member of the Global Medical Team, the Medical Safety Manager will;

    • lead the organisation-wide efforts to promote a culture of medical safety and quality improvement across international programs,
    • lead the development, maintenance, management and effective implementation of the Medical Incident Reporting (MIR) system,
    • and lead on robust research and generate learning to enable safe and quality medical services globally.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of medical safety practices, healthcare regulations, and reporting requirements.
    • Experience in managing incident reporting systems and conducting root cause analyses.
    • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, including time management, problem solving, ability to meet deadlines.
    • Sound judgement with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and tasks in a pressured environment.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and ability to present complex issues in a clear succinct manner.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively and collaboratively across diverse teams, functions, offices and organizations.
    • Proven ability to work with a high degree of flexibility and autonomy, tackling new areas with confidence.
    • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.
    • High level of computer literacy, including internet and other web-based sources and Microsoft Office.
    • Competent in the use of MS Office suite, incl Excel to analyse data.
    • Right to work in the UK (or country of residence).

    Desirable:

    • Public Health, Global Health and/or Medical background (Nursing degree preferable)
    • Experience working in the INGO sector, within complex/large scale country programmes and/or in emergency response/humanitarian settings.
    • Working proficiency in a second language, preferably French, Spanish or Arabic
