    Movement Communications Associate

    Summary

    The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Movement Communications Associate to join the team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Movement Communications on a 40 hours contract. This role will support the Movement Communications team in building a better front door for the Foundation. The role will work closely with the team supporting the creation of blog articles, and wiki content pages to communicate the work of various Foundation teams and community volunteers to help tell the story of the work happening in and around the Wikimedia movement.

    You are responsible for:

    1. Meta and general wiki work support
    2. Write, prepare, and markup pages for publishing on Meta wiki.
    3. Knowledge of wikitext, internal/external links, tables, images, etc.
    4. Markup pages for translation on Meta wiki
    5. Knowledge of Translation markup (<translate>, tvars, etc.)
    6. Working with translated texts created outside MediaWiki and using the Translation interface to include them in a translated page.
    7. Knowledge of templates and how to create and use them.
    8. Mostly adapting existing navigation templates for reuse and preparing said templates for translation.
    9. Support for requests coming into the team
    10. Monitoring of various pages for issues, questions and risks via our risk register 
    11. Support with CAC calls - updates on Meta
    12. Updating information where needed on Meta
    13. Support the team on internal requests for support for smaller tasks in particular related to on Meta and Wiki requests
    14. Support the team to help respond to enquiries from the Movement 
    15. Support with our community Blog - Diff
    16. Support the Diff editorial process : Supporting authors spanning Foundation staff and movement volunteers alike in publishing blog posts about initiatives, success stories, difficulties, events, and more.
    17. Reviewing submitted drafts to check appropriateness of tone, subject matter, imagery, content 
    18. Scheduling and publishing posts: Preparing and scheduling posts in support of various initiative and product launches.
    19. Outreach to Foundation teams, community affiliates, groups, and individuals to encourage them to publish on Diff.
    20. There is always something happening in the movement and not everyone has the experience or expertise to communicate their important work. Being aware of what is happening in the org and across the movement and reaching out to folks to invite them to submit a blog post or event to Diff.
    21. Be proactively involved in reviewing and publishing Wikimania content from the team.
    22. In the lead up to Wikimania a schedule of blog posts is being developed. In support of this work we need to be aware of what is coming and preparing it for publication. 
    23. Triaging and resolving any bugs with WP VIP
    24. Supporting the team by engaging with our development partners at Human Made in developing new solutions and features for the Diff platform.

    Skills and Experience:

    1. Community communications and engagement
    2. Management of Wordpress sites or similar
    3. On Wiki editing experience and knowledge
