    Nutrition Technician

    JOB PURPOSE

    Working under the guidance of the Program Nutrition Officer, the Nutrition Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) in nutrition clinics across the health facilities. Support in nutrition surveillance and assessment including mass screening, promotion of Maternal Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) through the Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Implementation of the nutrition response in nutrition clinics while ensuring adherence to the stipulated protocol.
    • Implementation of the outpatient therapeutic program for severely acute malnourished children under-fives.
    • Implementation of supplementary feeding of the moderately malnourished under-fives, pregnant and lactating women.
    • Together with the caregiver teams, coordinate the day-to-day implementation of MIYCN, Family MUAC screening at household levels through community health workers.
    • In collaboration with the ministry of health, plan for training for M2MSGs on efficient MIYCN practices and support the systematic delivery of health and nutrition education messages to the community.
    • Implement comprehensive Maternal Infant and Young Child nutrition program (MIYCN), Baby Friendly Community initiative (BFCI), Family MUAC approaches.
    • Support capacity building and On Job Training for nutrition volunteer staff and CHWs through the identification of capacity gaps and supporting training.
    • Ensure the availability of nutrition supplies and equipment at the facility level.
    • Offer nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical complications including comprehensive care clinic clients
    • Conduct mass screening for children under-fives regularly in collaboration with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).
    • Compile and submit weekly, biweekly, and monthly reports.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Professional Qualifications

    • At least a Diploma in Food Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
    • MUST be registered and licensed by Kenya Nutritionists & Dieticians Institute (KNDI).

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    • Minimum 2 years’ NGO experience in implementing emergency community nutrition or in Health Facilities context.
    • Experience in Maternal Infant and Young Child nutrition with strong BFHI/BFCI approaches.
    • Experience in nutrition survey and assessment.
    • Previous experience in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands of Kenya is an added advantage.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Proven analytical, communication/ negotiation skills and ability to think strategically.
    • Report writing and excellent computer skills.
    • Ability to work in hardship areas.
    • Flexible and positive personality.
    • Strong planning and implementation capacity.
    • Proven problem solving and organizational skills.
    • Strong Community Nutrition experience.
