Plant Mechanic at a Reputable Company

Responsibilities

• Conduct major repairs and rebuilds of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic pumps for heavy equipment such as backhoes and wheel loaders.
• Plan and execute comprehensive maintenance schedules, including routine servicing, lubrication, and safety inspections to prevent breakdowns.
• Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles and machine attachments such as hydraulic horse pipes, blades, and side booms.
• Inspect engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical systems, tyres, and frames.
• Monitoring equipment performance and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
• Keep accurate maintenance records including up-to-date tyre register.
• Apply technical knowledge and cost-awareness to improve workshop efficiency and reliability.
• Monitor materials and supplies required for machine operation. 
• Suggest and implement improvements to enhance machine performance, productivity, and safety.

Competencies and Attributes.

• In-depth knowledge of diesel engines and heavy construction machinery, including dozers, backhoes, wheel loaders, graders and excavators.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Accurate in maintaining maintenance records.
• Attention to Detail.

Qualifications

• Diploma in construction plant mechanics, automotive engineering, or related field from a recognized institution. Government Trade Test (GTT) certification is a strong advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
• Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
• Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently
