    Post-Doctoral Fellow in Climate Adaptation

    The Project:

    • The successful candidate will contribute research and technical expertise to the Regreening for the Future project. The role will be based in Nairobi, with regular field visits to research sites in Nyandarua, Makueni, Nyamira, and HomaBay counties. An attractive stipend package will be provided, and all operational costs directly related to the research will be covered under the project.
    • The appointment is open to Kenyan citizens or residents holding valid work authorization. The PostDoctoral Fellow will report to Project Leader and will be fully supported by the project in terms of supervision and research-related resources. This opportunity offers a chance to advance impactful research on climate adaptation, contributing to resilience and sustainable development in Kenya.

    Job Description:
    The Postdoctoral Fellow will take Lead Research, Capacity Building, and Curriculum Development on adaptation pathways and re-greening to advance climate-ready solutions at UoN’s Institute for Climate and Adaptation. The successful candidate will generate significant outcomes for the project, including:

    • Creating a centre of expertise and knowledge in adaptation pathways and regreening within the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation,
    • Supporting the embedding of knowledge and skills from this project within the University and broader research community,
    • Providing resources and organisation to support the development of a new curriculum (in particular within a nature-based solutions masters course specialisation), and facilitatingcontributions from research partners to this course,
    • Undertaking literature reviews, evidence gap analysis and synthesis of existing knowledge to support the project and specific project sites, and
    • Supporting the PhD students that will be part of the project,
    • Publishing at least 2 high quality peer review manuscripts and dissemination of research findings by presenting results at conferences, participating in workshops, or exhibiting work at interagency collaboration events.

    Job Requirements:

    • PhD degree in either Climate Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences or similar fields.
    • The BSc. and Masters degrees should also be in either Climate Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences in similar or related fields.
    • Be an early career researcher (within 5 years of completion of PhD).
    • Experience with using Climate Models and IPCC’s shared Socio-Economic Pathways (SSPs)
    • Strong background in transdisciplinary research methods.
    • Motivation and ability to work collaboratively in a large transdisciplinary project including multiple disciplines, cultures, languages and environments.
    • Willingness to undertake field and stakeholder-based research.
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and works well under tight timelines.
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to coordinate and oversee research assistants.

    Desirables:

    • Experience of using a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) platform in landscape research.
    • Experience in scenario development and futures planning.
    • Experience generating and manipulating meteorological products and downscaled climate models.
