    Project Officer (HIV Care and Treatment) – USAID Afya Jumuisha Project

    CHAK will be implementing a AFYA JUMUISHA USAID funded 5-year HIV Prevention, care and treatment project in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Nyandarua, starting around April / May of 2021.

    CHAK is therefore seeking to recruit competent, experienced and highly skilled candidates expected to drive the project to achieve its objectives and to act as change agents supporting a culture of performance and accountability within the project counties. These are competitive positions with high degree of personal responsibility and CHAK will offer individuals competitive rewards commensurate with their level of skills, responsibility and the market tread as follows:

    The program will provide technical support and mentorship to the health facility and community HIV/TB service delivery health care givers on and quality comprehensive, evidence-based HIV and TB prevention, care, support, and treatment interventions in established health facilities.

    The officer will champion use of evidence–based interventions along the continuum of HIV care services by guiding adherence to the principles of continuous quality improvement through use of data, e.g. MER indicators, MPRs and SIMS reports.

    Reporting to the Service Delivery Advisor, the Key duties and Responsibilities include:

    • Support and facilitate subcounty and Health facility level health providers to scale up high-impact retention and viral load strategies towards a 95% enrollment into care and treatment and a 95% viral load suppression rate.
    • Roll out updated care and treatment guidelines, standard-operating procedures and job aids to ensure that HCP through appropriate in-service training mechanisms to ensure that HCP have the right skills and tools to offer quality services.
    • Provide HIV and AIDS technical skills and knowledge transfer to health care providers at the facility across the clinical cascade in care and treatment including key, priority and target populations (pregnant and breastfeeding women, children, adolescents, men).
    • Support and facilitate Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives at the health facilities to increase the utilization of and retention in care and treatment services and effectively improve viral load suppression.
    • Provide technical assistance in care and treatment at sub county, facility and community level, including at youth-friendly facilities and facilitate and participate in the subcounty care and treatment Technical Working Groups (TWG), task teams, workshops and campaigns.
    • Assess barriers to clients retention in care and monitor trends by each health facility in order to make changes in the provision of remedial services as necessary.
    • Ensure that gender and stigma reduction interventions are streamlined with and linked with prevention, care, treatment, and support activities to ensure maximum retention and viral load suppression.

    Qualifications:

    • Medical Doctor, (MBChB) with at least 3 years hands on experience in HIV care and treatment;
    • Clinical Officer or Registered Nurse with training in HIV and AIDS care and treatment and addition at least 5 years’ experience, 3 of which are focused in care and treatment, including implementation of retention strategies and recency testing.
    • Experience in capacity building of Health facility and Subcounty level health Care Providers through onsite mentorship and facilitative supervision, planning, facilitating training at subcounty level.
    • Knowledge or experience in social, behavioral change communication implementation science.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully subcounty and county health management team in support of facility level service delivery.
