    Regulatory Affairs Manager East Africa

    JOB PURPOSE

    You will be the Regulatory Affairs Manager for East Africa cross Business groups in EA region and Personal care Africa lead for Africa –As the East Africa manager, you will be responsible for connecting & translating the science of our products in order to achieve the most impactful claims & innovation and to support business growth by securing Unilever’s ability to market it’s products with the technologies of today and the future in a way that is relevant to consumers and in line with our company and business strategies. You should have the ability to be a connector & collaborator that can connect widely across functions as well as externally and at the most senior levels.

    As the PC lead, you will partner the global PC Regulatory affairs LT and PC local East Africa LT to navigate the Africa regulatory framework and to develop the work & advocacy programmes to support delivery of the future formats, technologies, claims and markets in the division strategy. You will be part of the broader Africa R&D and global Regulatory Affairs community, both passionate and supportive teams that are driven by the Africa Mainstream strategy and the growth potential of the African continent.

    WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

    Impactful Innovation:

    • Translate & simplify the regulatory landscape to guide product, packaging & claims design.
    • Drive market competitiveness, share and brand equity through impactful claims – providing guidance & adherence to regulations and co-creating the strongest claims.
    • Co-create the strongest claims to communicate product benefits, brand strategies and support brand equity.

    Advocacy:

    • Be engaged with key Regulators and have early warning of new & evolving regulations governing our products & packaging. Will ensure clear communication and co-ordination of Unilever positions to influence.
    • Work with business partners to define the East Africa and Africa BPC Advocacy topics and craft the advocacy strategies for these.
    • Provide input and expertise to the local, regional, and global issue management processes.
    • Build relationships and be involved with external regulators, key trade associations and working groups, as well as key opinion formers.

    WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

    Experiences & Qualifications

    • Degree in Pharmaceutical science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering.
    • Experience in Regulatory Affairs/ Technical product management – Africa cluster experience will be an advantage.
    • A demonstrated expertise and track record in Regulatory Affairs with a focus on Advocacy and Innovation guidance.
    • Existing relationships with regulators, industry bodies and involvement in technical regulatory committees would be a benefit.

    • East Africa Leadership team.
    • X-functional business partners & Business Teams.
    • R&D and Regulatory Affairs across local, Africa and global teams
    • Brand teams across local, Africa and global teams
    • External partners – trade associations, technical committees, Regulators, industry groups.

    • A strong strategic thinking with a demonstrated ability to design multi-stakeholder advocacy plans.
    • The ability to influence the external regulatory world and Unilever’s science & technology both today and for the future.
    • A creative and entrepreneurial spirit that can collaborate with brand & business teams to navigate the regulatory frameworks in the market and land strongest claims for impactful innovation.
    • The ability to collaborate across divisions, functions and geographies.
