    Research Associate I

    Key responsibilities

    • Soil & manure sample preparation (drying, grinding, sieving), storage, weighing, and analysis following Standard Operating Procedures
    • Collection of gas samples from manual chambers for soil and manure GHG flux measurements; preparation of GC vials (evacuation, labelling, cleaning)
    • Collection of soil and manure samples from manure trials in the lab and field (Kapiti).
    • Assisting the laboratory technician with analysis of soil pH, texture, and nutrient content
    • General Soil Lab cleanliness, cleaning and storage of glassware using prescribed methods
    • Safe disposal of spent chemicals and containers and organizing with EOHS under guidance of the lab manager for safe collection
    • Summarize the analyzed data in a clear concise manner using prescribed spreadsheets and submit weekly to the soil lab technician in charge

     Requirements

    • BSc. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Rangeland Management, Environmental Management, Agriculture, or similar
    • One year of experience in the relevant field
    • Technical training in greenhouse gas sampling and soil sampling
    • Experience with lab incubations and field experiments is an asset
    • Basics in biosafety and First Aid Training
    • Ability to communicate effectively, work independently and work productively in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team.
