    Research Associate -II

    The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Associate II to support in various ways the research portfolio of the animal and human health program, with emphasis on zoonosis and food safety work.

    ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the planning of, execute and coordinate field work activities within and outside Kenya, according to the needs of different projects. These include, but not restricted to interviews, help design field work protocols, preparing and administering questionnaires, running focus group discussions, workshops and biological sampling. As part of such activities, train enumerators and field technicians on various data collection techniques including electronic systems such as ODK and develop work-plans and budgets for field activities and field staff.
    • Establishing and maintaining contacts with collaborating stakeholders and partners as well as assist in organizing project and stakeholder meetings, and participate in workshops and trainings.
    • Conduct data entry, data cleaning and management of survey data and support basic statistical analysis for various datasets, as required.
    • Locate and assemble secondary data relevant to projects in the team.
    • Prepare results summaries and report writing as part of ongoing and upcoming team projects.
    • Undertake literature reviews within the scope of different projects within the team
    • Managing references for reports and publications from the team
    • To engage in a range of other activities in line with his/her skills and competencies as required by the team

    Requirements

    • BSc. in agricultural sciences, veterinary medicine, human health with 2 years of experience in relevant field
    • Diploma in relevant field with four years in agriculture, veterinary medicine, epidemiology or
    • Experience working in research projects, including both desk and field work activities
    • Evidence of experience conducting basic data analysis
    • Good command of Microsoft word (including excel)
    • Good command of at least one statistical software (STATA, R, or similar)
    • Good command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili

    Terms of Appointment

    This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. It is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on 1-year fixed term contract
