    Research Officer II - Participatory Technology Development for Food System Mitigation for Climate Change

    Responsibilities

    • Contributing to a conceptual framework for applying the living lab approach to food system transformation research.
    • Facilitating a process of structural development of the living lab, considering power imbalances, gender transformation and inclusiveness.
    • Develop a living lab profile considering participation and food system mitigation.
    • Stakeholder mapping and profiles developed.
    • Identification of innovative tools for capacity building and leadership, such as mentoring and coaching and people2people training, training on funding acquisition and proposal development.
    • Incorporate gender transformative agenda in the living lab approach in consultation with Mitigate+ gender experts.
    • Research on food system and mitigation aspects related to food system.
    • Assisting and facilitating participatory living lab organizational development, stakeholder integration and development of research agendas with PAR approaches.
    • Identifying funding sources for living lab to support innovation cases.
    • Synthesis of lessons learned in living lab.

    Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in social sciences, development studies or equivalent experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ work experience
    • Background in food systems studies, social research, participation, climate change and mitigation, innovation.
    • Solid training on both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
    • Extensive experience with quantitative survey design.
    • Strong experience with conducting participatory research, stakeholder mapping and stakeholder engagement in Kenyan context.
    • Experience in data analysis and interpretation for both basic quantitative and qualitative analysis.
    • Extensive experience with use of software like R or STATA for quantitative data analysis, limited experience with NVIVO is a plus.
    • Strong aptitude at interpreting, synthesizing and communicating the results of data analysis to various types of audience.
    • General experience in food systems studies, social research, gender research, climate change and mitigation, innovation studies.
    • Possibility to extend contract pending excellent performance evaluation.
    • Good communication and networking skills.
    • Either based in Rift Valley or with sound work experience in Nandi County.
    • Fluency in English and Swahili, and preferably also Kalenjin.
