    Security Coordination Officer

    Competencies

    Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; Tailors language, tone, style, and format to match the audience; Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

    Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; Identifies priority activities and assignments; Adjusts priorities as required; Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning;

    Education

    •  An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent such as a senior command and staff qualification) in security management or business administration, political/social/military science or international relations, with focus on security management;
    •  A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience in military, police or security management may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree is required;
    •  A first-level university degree may be substituted with a diploma from a police or military academy (for commissioned officers), which may be considered its equivalent, and in combination with four additional years of qualifying experience in military, police or security management is required.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven years with advanced university degree (nine years with a first-level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in the military, police or security management; of which at least five years of progressively more senior experience in security operations, or in security administration, or similar entities, within a military, police or security organization.
    • At least two years of experience in managing multiple and diverse military, police or security units operating in a conflict or post conflict environment. At least one year experience and exposure at the international level is required.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required
