Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms/specimens;
Receiving/collecting, labelling and registering patients’ specimens;
Preparing laboratory reagents;
Examining specimens;
Maintaining equipment and reagents;
Supervising the disinfection, washing and sterilization of apparatus;
Writing and recording results;
Processing the specimen according to the specified Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); and
Implement Laboratory External Quality Assessment (EQA) program to ensure enrollment, participation and timely response of collaborating laboratories.
Participate in well documented internal audits and other quality assurance activities, and ensure such activities achieve intended outcomes.
Coordinate conducting of management reviews, equipment verification and measurement uncertainty and inform management on matters arising.
Support the implementation of the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) activities for QMS sustainability.
Oversee sample storage and shipping processes;
Accountable for all laboratory consumables
Ensuring timely development and sharing of reports;
Supervise other laboratory staff
Take part in laboratory staff mentorship
Be flexible and ability to work under pressure and long hours
Vacancy Requirements:
At least four (4) years relevant work experience; Mandatory
Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields; Medical Laboratory Sciences Laboratory Sciences, Analytical/Applied, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Sciences/Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology or Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) where applicable; or any other recognized regulatory body; Mandatory
Trained on ISO 15189:2022 will be an added advantage Added Advantage
SLAMTA Training, 1, 2 & 3 will be an added advantage Added Advantage
Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists where applicable; and Mandatory
Proficiency in computer application; Mandatory
Demonstrated work performance and results; Mandatory
At least three years’ experience working in a clinical trial or research setting will be an added advantage; Mandatory
