Senior Technician Turkana at Water Mission

What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Regional Manager Turkana with guidance from the Lead Engineer. The Senior technician is responsible for performing technical tasks within the Regional office following established standards and procedures.  The person in this position must be self-driven, a devoted Christian with a clear calling from God and a heartfelt passion for our mission. This position requires that the person resides in Turkana, Kenya, where the office is located. It also involves frequent traveling to remote locations within Kenya or surrounding countries.

The Senior technician will:-

General Responsibilities:

1. Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public. 

Other Responsibilities

1. Carry out installation of solar PV systems, including electrical wiring, mounting of inverters and panels,testing, installation of main switches and other standard electrical work
2. Conduct troubleshooting and repair work on solar energy systems, including identifying and resolving issues related to wiring, connections, and equipment malfunctions.
3. Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment
4. Act as site team-leader during installations, ensuring efficient, safe and quality work with adherence to Water Mission’s high standard of installation, best practice and regulatory requirements.
5. Ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
6. Ensure quality output in the solar installations, wiring of solar panels, and installation of electrical equipments giving the contractors needed direction.
7. Develop maintenance schedules and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
8. Train system operators on the day to day running and operation of the systems, which includes daily monitoring of residual chlorine levels in treated water.
9. Monitor quality testing and assist with borehole/spring/well yield tests.
10. Read and understand engineering drawings.
11. Perform assessments in communities, including water quality and quantity testing, survey measurements, and other aspects as may be required.
12. Provide timely project reporting, including monthly reports, assessment reports, and follow-up reports with accompanying photographs as per specific assignment guidelines.
13. Timely support completed projects by attending to system operations and maintenance related issues.
14. Comply with all the existing organizational policies and procedures.
15. Provide disaster response support and work in other countries as needed.
16. Other duties as assigned.

What is required?

1. Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
2. Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili is required.
3. Diploma/Higher Diploma in engineering (Civil, Environmental, electrical, or Electro-mechanical Engineering). A bachelors degree will be an added advantage. 
4. Relevant certification required
5. Experience of at least 5 years in speciliased field ( preferably related to water systems)
6. Specialized technical skills ( such as plumbing, welding, electricians and building)
7. Driver’s license required.
8. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and drafting programs (AutoCAD/PowerCADD, SolidWorks/ProE).
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural communication and the ability to clearly articulate ideas and feedback in a constructive way.
10. Excellent analytical, project planning, and management skills.
11. Thorough understanding of the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
12. Consistent lifestyle and behaviour that bears a good witness to the Christian faith.
13. A level of impeccable integrity and stewardship that demonstrates to those who invest in Water Mission Kenya a sense of security and trust that their gifts are well used and invested.
14. Demonstrated ability to build consensus and work collaboratively and effectively with other leaders, volunteers, and employees at all levels.
15. Must be standards and detail-oriented with the ability to plan ahead.
16. Willingness and availability to travel to remote places and occasional trips abroad.
