    Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor

    The MEL Advisor key duties and accountabilities include:

    • Leading on the strengthening and design of innovative and participatory monitoring and evaluation methodologies and tools to assess outcomes and impact of programmes; support the integration of successful approaches in routine MEL practice.
    • Leading on the piloting, implementation and revision of Sightsavers MEL approaches in existing and new projects and support the global MEL team to implement new tools.
    • Strengthen the use of Theories of Change (ToC) within projects through participating in their development and ensuring clear relationships between ToC and baselines and endlines.
    • Provide technical support to logframe development during the project design process, particularly for social inclusion and inclusive education projects.
    • Contribute to project MEL planning and organisational learning by generating evidence of progress and lessons learnt, disseminating and sharing learning and promoting uptake of learning.
    • Lead Country and Global teams to conduct evidence generation activities to support strategic direction including, project baseline, annual and endline data collection, analysis and learning
    • Analyse, consolidate and disseminate indicator baseline and endline data, provide technical support to donor reporting when necessary.
    • Support the integration of needs and opinions expressed by people and communities we serve.

    About you

    As the successful candidate you will posses a degree or equivalent working experience in a relevant filed (e.g. international development, public health, social sciences), have experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning gained within the international development sector, with in-country experience being an asset. You will be committed to principles of inclusion and have excellent verbal and written skills in English.

    Jobholder Requirements

    Essential:

    • Experience in understanding and responding to the complexities of working across multiple countries and continents in an international development organisation.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise work in a high-pressure environment working to competing deadlines.
    • Sound knowledge and demonstrable skills in planning, monitoring and reviewing qualitative outcomes and impact and using outcome focussed approaches
    • Demonstrated experience in participatory planning and MEL approaches.
    • Experience producing analytical reports and communication materials for a wide range of audiences, particularly using qualitative data.
    • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external audiences.
    • Ability to balance attention to detail with understanding the big picture.
    • Ability to conduct capacity building 1-1 or through workshops.

    Desirable:

    • Fluency in other Sightsavers’ languages e.g. French, Portuguese, Bengali, Kiswahili.
    • Experience in MEL for social inclusion and/or education programmes.
    • Experience of working within a geographically disbursed team.
    • Experience in mentoring and facilitation.
    • Experience of working in disability inclusive programmes.
    • Experience of planning, monitoring and evaluating flexible and adaptive programmes.
    • Experience with qualitative data analysis software.
    • Understanding of operational research methodologies and approaches.
    • Availability to travel up to 12 weeks a year both locally and overseas.
