Skills Laboratory Technologist (Nursing) at Kirinyaga University

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and assist nursing students with skills lab to meet clinical objectives in Fundamental of Nursing and Health assessment practical sessions. And Nursing Skills practical sessions.
• Serve as skills coordinator for Fundamental of Nursing and Health assessment practical sessions
• Assist in developing clinical activity days such as medication/Maternity boot camps with lead faculty.
• Assist nursing students who are practicing procedures, evaluate their work, and advise nursing faculty of laboratory performance.
• Monitor and maintain confidential lab student records. Track student hours, number ofsessions and notes on lab activities and performance.
• Maintain a current schedule for all nursing labs and simulation 
• Identify and maintain reference materials, assisting students in finding reference materials in the nursing labs.
• Maintain inventory of lab/simulation equipment. Ensure that laboratory equipment is up to date and reflective of current practice.
• Ensure Laboratory equipment is marked not for human use according to accreditation standards.
• Maintain relationship with vendors on updates for equipment and renewing warranties.
• Remain current in the areas of standard precautions. Ensure that safety requirements are in place and faculty and students follow safe procedures.

Requirements:

• Have Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from accredited and recognized University in the relevant field.
• Diploma in Nursing will be an added advantage)
• Three (3) years of practice as a registered nurse in a position involving direct patient care particularly Midwifery, General Nursing care and Pre-operative, Intraoperative care.
• Registered with Nursing Council of Kenya
• Have a valid Practicing Licence
