    Sports Physiotherapist / Sports Injury Specialist

    Scope of Responsibilities:

    The Sports Physiotherapist/Sports Injury Specialist works under the supervision of the School Health Clinician to provide professional, responsive, and student-centered health services, with a specific focus on the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. This role involves attending school-sponsored athletic practices, competitions, and extracurricular activities, offering physiotherapy treatment, first aid, and emergency response as required. Flexible working hours are expected, including after-school, evenings, and weekends, to ensure comprehensive coverage of athletics and activities.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide immediate assessment and treatment for sports-related injuries during practices, games, and competitions.
    • Deliver physiotherapy services, including rehabilitation plans, exercise therapy, and preventative care tailored to student-athletes.
    • Respond to medical emergencies and activate emergency protocols when required in line with ISK health procedures.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of injuries, treatments, rehabilitation progress, and emergency responses.
    • Collaborate with coaches, activity supervisors, and athletics staff to support safe return-to-play decisions.
    • Educate students and staff on injury prevention, safe training practices, and stretching/conditioning routines.
    • Collaborate with the Health Clinician to monitor, maintain, and restock all athletics-related medical kits and supplies.
    • Work with the Health Clinician to communicate clearly and professionally with students, staff, and families regarding medical incidents and rehabilitation plans.
    • Support the School Health Clinician in broader student health initiatives as needed.
    • Perform other health and safety duties as reasonably assigned.

    Required Qualifications, Skills, and Qualities:

    • Diploma in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, or a related field.
    • Certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), First Aid, and CPR (strongly preferred).
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in physiotherapy, sports therapy, or athletic injury management.
    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili with strong communication skills.
    • Competency in record-keeping and use of technology for health documentation.
    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in high-pressure/emergency situations.
    • Flexible, dependable, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
    • Student-centered and nurturing approach, with sensitivity to adolescent needs.

    Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, Sports Medicine, or related specialization
    • Certified in Advanced First Aid; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred.
    • Advanced certification in Athletic Training, or Strength & Conditioning.
    • Experience working with youth in athletic or school settings.
    • Comfortable working collaboratively across departments (health, athletics, and administration)
    • Previous experience working with adolescents or in a school/educational setting.
    • Training in concussion management and return-to-play protocols.
    • Experience covering team sports, tournaments, or competitive athletic events.
    • Strong skills in injury prevention program design (e.g., warm-up routines, conditioning programs).
    • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, coaches, and staff in a diverse international school environment.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
