Sterilization Technicians at Tenwek Hospital

Summary

• In general to see that everything brought to sterilizing for cleaning packing and sterilization is done in order and as soon as possible so that the wards will always have things ready for use.

Duties

• To see that sterilizing is clean and things are properly organized.
• To keep good inventory of equipment’s brought in for sterilization and what is going out so that nothing is missing.
• To see to it that all equipment’s brought to sterilizing is cleaned, sterilized and rady to go to the proper department.
• To see that all torn linens are sorted out and then taken to tailoring for repairs
• To return to laundry dirty linen for cleaning  and to take them to sterilizing for parking of instrument basis and other equipment’s.
• To see to it that floors, shelves, windows and  tables in sterilizing area are properly cleaned and dusted so as to ensure safety and maintenance of sterile pack.
• To wash, sort, pack and sterilize-sets, instruments, maternity packs and dressing packs.
• To cut and prepare gauzes into different sizes (some plain 4x4 others into Vaseline gauze then place them in proper containers and sterilize them)
• Issue sterilized supplies to other departments only with properly filled requisition forms
• To ensure the sterility is maintained at all times e.g. wearing of masks when handling sterilizer or sterile-pack

Qualifications

• Certificate/Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology
• Minimum one year working in a similar environment.
• Good computer knowledge.Summary
