    Deputy Director Medical Research and Training

    REF: TNH/HRD/DDMRT/07/2022

    Reporting to the Director Medical Services, the successful candidates will be responsible for leading and coordinating all clinical research and training activities in the Hospital in line with the overall strategic objectives.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Foster a culture and environment of innovative clinical research excellence through the development of research teams and translational research projects.
    • Establish the vision and strategic plan for all medical research at the Hospital and to ensure delivery of the strategic plan, particularly with respect to clinical research.
    • Work closely and collaboratively with the Director, Medical Services to promote and develop the research activities in the Hospital.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for multi-disciplinary internal and external collaborations and development of flagship research projects in clinical research.
    • Identify and recruit high-calibre senior research staff that fit with the strategic objectives of the Hospital’s research activities.
    • Lead clinical research collaborations with key partners in Kenya and the region.
    • Develop the quality of clinical research by supporting clinical research training, career development of clinical researchers, development of research infrastructure, and enhancing collaboration and boosting competitiveness for external funding.
    • Develop strategies to boost external funding and promote commercialization of clinical research activities.
    • Oversee the performance of multidisciplinary health outcomes-focused research within the healthcare environment in areas identified as key by the Hospital.
    • Oversee and review clinical research performance and research integrity.
    • Drive a personal program of internationally recognized clinical research with success in national/international grant funding including health services research, data analytics, translating research into practice, clinical trials and research in health education. 

    EDUCATION SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Master of Medicine degree in any medical field. A master’s degree in healthcare management, Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management or Master of Public Health will be an added advantage.
    • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from a recognized institution.
    • Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing license.
    • Minimum of 10 years working experience with 7 years at senior management level in the health care sector.

    • A personal commitment to and evidence of mentoring clinical researchers across disciplines and fostering postgraduate research training
    • In-depth working knowledge of current applicable regulations and industry best practices and standards pertaining to the disclosure of clinical trial information
