Theatre Technician at Mater Misericordiae Hospital

Main Duties:

• Checking and confirming that anaesthetic machines are tested for leakage and are in good working condition.
• Maintaining and keeping the operating room and ensuring everything is running smoothly before surgery.
• Cleansing and disinfecting surgical instruments and or equipment after surgeries.
• Preparing surgical instruments and equipment for autoclaving/sterilization per protocol.
• Might also be required to prepare the area of the patient’s body that is being operated on by cleaning or shaving the area, maintaining and keeps all surgical tools sterile and orderly.
• Maintaining and keeping all equipment clean and functional.
• Ordering and maintaining necessary supplies in the operating room.
• Preparing the patients before and after surgery by washing and disinfecting the area for surgery
• Preparing necessary equipment and instruments prior to procedure/surgery.
• Assisting in bringing the patient to the operating room.
• Preparing the patient before and after surgery by washing and disinfecting the area for surgery.
• Attending to the needs of the patients while inside the operating room.
• Assisting surgeons during the procedure, under the direction of a surgeon, passing instruments that are utilized during an operation.
• He/she might be required to cut sutures, control breathing equipment, and sterilize and restock the operating room after surgery.
• Taking care of any specimens obtained for testing following laboratory procedures by delivering specimens to the laboratory and disposing of waste that is removed during an operation.
• Assisting the surgical team and coordinating closely with the doctors, nurses and laboratory staff.
• Cleaning and disinfecting the operating room area after each procedure/surgery.
• Reporting any defective equipment and instruments for repair or replacement.
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the theatre in charge.

 Required Qualifications for the Position

• Diploma in Theatre Technology
• 2 Years experience post qualification.
• Anaesthetic Assistant experience is highly desirable.
