Theatre Technologists at Tenwek Hospital

Purpose:

• To assist the surgeons during a procedure, prepare and organize operating rooms, clean and sterilize equipment and maintain sterile environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Setting up the instruments and equipment that is required for the procedure.
• Sterilizing equipment and taking an inventory to ensure there are enough supplies for surgery.
• Preparing sterile operating rooms for surgeries.
• Taking a count of all surgical instruments and supplies prior to the operation.
• Recounting surgical instruments and supplies at the end of the end of the operation
• Preparing patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
• Providing support during surgery by passing instruments and other supplies.
• Staying uptodate on surgical technology, medical terminology and procedures.
• Working well with surgeons, Fellows, Resident surgeons, Perioperative Nurses and general surgical team.
• Helping provide great patient care
• Assist surgical team by taking tissue samples and other specimens during surgery for further analysis.
• Maintaining an overall environment throughout the surgery

OTHER GENERAL DUTIES AND RSPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure that there is teamwork in the unit.
• Facilitate patient comfort
• Facilitate communication with patients and relatives
• Facilitate management of patient records recognizing rules of patients’ confidentiality and privacy
• Facilitate the maintenance of department inventory and supplies as instructed.
• Give Spiritual care.
• Perform any other duty as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

• Certificate/Diploma in Perioperative technology course
• Minimum One year experience
• Good computer skills and knowledge
