    Anaesthetic Assistant( temporary), Operating Room

    Responsibilities:

    • Setup, test and calibrate physiological monitors and equipment such as anesthesia machines, airway devices, physiological monitors, infusion devices, nerve stimulators, patient/fluid warming devices and fiber optic bronchoscopes.
    • Perform equipment checks as indicated and maintain records of problems
    • Replace and change anesthetic equipment supplies as per routine schedule
    • Maintain a stock of drug supplies at anesthesia workstations.
    • Troubleshoot anesthetic equipment
    • Correct problems that have been discovered and follow up with the theatre manager, the biomedical technician/engineers, and manufacturer’s service representative.
    • Participate in operating theatre’s infection control program.
    • Performing duties such as maintaining cleanliness of anesthetic equipment in accordance with quality assurance programs.
    • Assist with the setting up of the physiological monitors such as ECG, Pulse oximetry and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP).
    • Assist the anesthesiologist with the insertion of peripheral venous lines, arterial lines, central venous catheters and pulmonary artery catheters.
    • Adjust therapies (e.g. Ventilation, temperature control devices, fluid flow rates etc.) as directed by the anesthesiologist.
    • In liaison with the circulating nurse, provide diagnostic data for the anesthesiologist by performing random blood sugar sampling and arterial blood gas sampling as requested.
    • Arrange for transportation of emergency blood samples to the lab and collection of blood products from the blood bank.
    • Assist at anesthetic emergency by performing duties such as aspirating secretions from the trachea and pharynx, deflating airways cuffs, and provide emergency airway equipment. Remove monitoring equipment after surgery.
    • Assist with the transfer of post operative patients to the Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) under the direction of the anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurse.
    • Assist with the transfer of ventilation and/or anesthetized patient to the intensive care or high dependency unit under the direction of the anesthesiologist, surgeon and nurse.

    Requirements:

    • Diploma/ Equivalent Required or Completion of Anesthesia Assistant Course
    • In service Course on Basic Nursing skills and Anesthesia
    • Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Theatre is preferred

    Cardiac Perfusionist, Operating Room

    Responsibilities:

    • Performs duties to support cardiopulmonary bypass; maintains and demonstrates competency in the performance of all responsibilities.
    • Appropriate choice and use of disposable and heart-lung machine equipment and safety devices for the performance of CPB.
    • Appropriate maintenance, according to hospital practice guidelines, of the patient's physiological parameters/variables during CPB.
    • Prepares for surgery by assembling extracorporeal circuit, including connecting tubing, oxygenators, pumps and filters. Primes and de-bubbles circuit.
    • Prepares, administers and monitors flow of prescribed solutions and medications including circuit prime, cardioplegia, and blood products used during procedures requiring extracorporeal support.
    • Develops perfusion care plan and calculates appropriate perfusion formulae to be communicated during preoperative briefing.
    • Manages extracorporeal circuits to achieve conditions ordered by surgeon, including CPB, deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), coronary perfusion, veno-venous bypass, or partial bypass.
    • Maintains supply of blood in system and makes any adjustments needed to achieve conditions specified by surgeon or anesthesiologist, such as changes in blood temperature, oxygen/carbon dioxide ratio in blood, or patients’ electrolytes.
    • Receives and interprets blood gas values and assesses adequacy of perfusion. Adjusts and monitors heart-lung machine settings according to clinical practice guidelines for CPB.
    • Monitors and maintains anticoagulation according to clinical practice guidelines for CPB.
    • Disassembles extracorporeal circuits and mechanical components of the heart/lung machine and cleans all non-disposable items and disposes of contaminated materials.
    • Records, updates and maintains permanent records of all cardiovascular bypass procedures.
    • Participates in emergency operation of intra-aortic balloon pump during cardiac procedures.
    • Prepares and manages extracorporeal support for complex vascular surgery, including descending aortic aneurysm repair.
    • Prepares and manages blood conservation systems.
    • Prepares and manages extracorporeal membrane oxygenation circuits for veno-arterial and veno-venous support.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of appropriate equipment and strategies utilized for complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgery
    • Prepares and manages para-corporeal ventricular assist devices for patients requiring temporary ventricular support.

      Requirements:

    • Diploma from a Medical training College (basic) 
    • Certificate/Diploma in Perfusion Technology (Sub-speciality)
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • (Two) 2 years on the job perfusion training experience in a university teaching hospital.
    • Certificates in: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Intra-aortic balloon pump, Biomedical pump, Auto transfusion, ECMO( Extra Copper Membrane Oxygenation) 
    • Demonstrates expert knowledge in normal heart function and the various diseases that afflict the heart

    Accountant - Treasury, General Accounts, Finance Division

    Job role

    Maintain treasury accounting function for AKUH, N by ensuring efficient use of available cash flow, maintaining bank reconciliations, investment management and assist finance manager in internal and external audits.

    Key responsibilities

    Bank reconciliations: 

    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all hospital banks reconciliations to be submitted for review as per KPIs.
    • Ensure that all reconciling items in bank reconciliations as well as cash control accounts are followed up and closed on before the following month.

    Letters of credit

    • Prepare and review, in a timely manner, letters of credit and bank guarantees as requested by internal users.

    Compliance and Documentation

    • Ensure strict compliance with 3rd party covenants as well as internal policies and set financial regulations.
    • Maintain proper accurate records for all internal and external correspondence regarding treasury functions.

    Payment by Corporate Credit Cards

    • Check documentation as per corporate credit card policy, allocate the expense account then have the voucher signed off.

    Daily cash and investment management

    • Monitor and maintain daily cash report and circulate the same.
    • Manage cash flow by ensuring adequate liquidity for processing all institution obligations.
    • Manage short and long-term investments to maximize returns.
    • Preparation of periodical cash flow report
    • Evaluate investment opportunities with bankers as well as CBK and recommend to Finance Manager

    End month GL closing activities.

    • Offer supervisory role in treasury by assisting Finance Manager in active participation of end month closing activities relating to Treasury by ensuring that all JVs and transactions are accurately recorded by closure of the month.

    Audits

    • Prepare audit schedules and ensure these are ready for annual audits.
    • Retrieve files for review by auditors as may be requested by the audit team.
    • Answer audit queries asked by the auditors during the field audit
    • Assist the finance manager and other accounting colleagues with accounting duties as allocated to you.

    Qualifications and skills requirements:

    • Professional training ACCA / CPA (K)
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in a similar role.
    • Excellent computer accounting skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Technical skills in accounting applications and MS Excel
    • Excellent analytical skills
    • Excellent Excel and spreadsheet skills
    • Person of high integrity with a positive attitude towards work.
