    Head of Diagnostics and Ancillary Services

    Job Purpose

    • The job holder leads a team to ensure excellent delivery of services, efficient operations, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Diagnostics and Ancillary Services at the AGC Tenwek Cardiothoracic Centre include, but are not limited to, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Services, and Clinical Nutrition. This position manages personnel, budgets, and oversees equipment functionality, and drives continuous improvement in line with CTC policies and prevailing regulations. This position ensures good collaboration with other departments and represents the CTC on committees as needed.

    Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

    • Oversee all aspects of Diagnostics and Ancillary services, ensuring excellent service delivery, efficient, high-quality, and smooth operation that meets the needs of the hospital and its patients.
    • Champion quality assurance for all diagnostic and ancillary services, including developing, implementing, and maintaining robust quality control procedures.
    • Provide effective leadership and direction to the Diagnostics and Ancillary services team, promoting a culture of collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, efficiency, and effectiveness.
    • Monitor and assess the functionality of diagnostic and ancillary services equipment, identifying potential issues and proactively reporting them to management for informed decision-making.
    • Develop and manage budgets for the Diagnostics and Ancillary services teams. Advocate for resource allocation and participate in strategy development to optimize services.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance by overseeing the collection, analysis, and submission of required data and statistics to relevant authorities.
    • Implement and manage continuous improvement plans for Diagnostics and Ancillary services, fostering innovation and optimizing service delivery.
    • Support other hospital management functions by providing collaboration and expertise to achieve their objectives.
    • Represent the hospital on various committees when called upon, effectively communicating the needs and capabilities of Diagnostics and Ancillary services.
    • Oversee day-to-day operations, supervision, management of performance and development of staff in the
    • Unit, fostering a cohesive and unified organizational culture.
    • Facilitate implementation of the work plans for corporate initiatives in the Unit: Audit, Integrity, Quality Management System, Risk Management, and others.
    • Development and management of the Unit’s work plan and budget.
    • Perform any assigned duties from time to time.

    Job Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Attributes)

    Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management with Business Administration qualification.
    • Medical Officer or Clinical Officer with Healthcare Administration advanced degree.

    Professional Certification and Membership

    • Senior Management Course, Leadership Development. 
    • Up-to-date membership and licensing of the relevant Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, and/or Physical Therapy Boards and Authorities of Kenya.

    Work Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in diagnostics/pharmacy/physical therapy/medical/health sector operations in a level 4 hospital.
    • At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

    Inpatient In-Charge – Nursing Services

    Job Purpose

    • The jobholder is responsible for overseeing and coordinating nursing activities within inpatient wards and critical care units to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in line with AGC - Tenwek policy, hospital regulations, and the standards set by the Nursing Council of Kenya

    Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

    • Oversee inpatient care, set work schedules, coordinate meetings, and make personnel decisions in the Inpatient Department.
    • Coordinate nursing activities through Unit In-Charges, ensuring smooth operations.
    • Recruit, train, and mentor nurses, and ensure accurate departmental records.
    • Apply nursing best practices and emerging theories to care delivery.
    • Implement government and hospital guidelines for patient safety and compliance.
    • Balance staff deployment across inpatient wards to optimize patient care.
    • Ensure all nurses hold valid practice licenses and maintain updated records.
    • Represent Nursing Services Lead in meetings and delegated duties when required.
    • Supervise daily operations, performance management, and staff professional growth.
    • Drive corporate initiatives such as audits, QMS, risk management, and compliance with policies.
    • Develop and manage inpatient departmental budgets and work plans.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Higher Diploma in Nursing or related field. A bachelor’s degree in nursing is an added advantage.
    • Valid registration and license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
    • Leadership training is an added advantage.
    • At least 3 years of progressive experience in a similar role, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership/supervisory position.

    Interventional Cardiologist

    Position Summary

    • The Interventional Cardiologist will provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional cardiology services to adults and, where appropriately trained, pediatric patients. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of exceptional cardiovascular care through clinical excellence, procedural expertise, teaching, mentorship, research, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

    Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

    • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with cardiovascular diseases through outpatient, inpatient, and consultative services.
    • Perform and interpret diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, including right and left heart catheterization, coronary angiography, balloon angioplasty, coronary stenting, and structural heart interventions within their scope of practice.
    • Assess patients for interventional or surgical management and coordinate referrals where appropriate.
    • Interpret and integrate imaging studies, laboratory findings, and diagnostic test results into patient management plans.
    • Provide emergency cardiovascular care, including guidance and participation in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and acute cardiac interventions.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary patient rounds and collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, internists, family physicians, and other specialists.
    • Support and manage patients requiring long-term cardiovascular and palliative cardiac care.
    • Perform or develop competency in cardiac critical care procedures such as central venous catheter placement, pericardiocentesis, and related interventions.
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies.
    • Mentor, train, and support junior physicians, fellows, medical officers, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
    • Participate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training programs.
    • Promote, participate in, and support cardiovascular research, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based practice.
    • Contribute to risk management, clinical governance, quality management systems, and accreditation activities.
    • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and Christian service in all interactions.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine or equivalent specialist qualification recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

    Professional Qualifications

    • Specialist Recognition in Cardiology by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
    • Fellowship or equivalent advanced training in Cardiology from a recognized institution.
    • Fellowship or Sub-specialty Training in Interventional/Invasive Cardiology.
    • Registration and Licensing
    • Valid Registration Certificate from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
    • Valid Annual Practicing License in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
    • Professional Indemnity Cover.

    Experience

    • Minimum of seven (5) years of post-qualification medical practice.
    • At least three (3) years of progressive experience in cardiology practice.
    • Demonstrated experience performing interventional cardiology procedures independently.
    • Experience in a tertiary care, teaching, or specialized cardiac centre will be an added advantage.

    System Developer

    Job Purpose

    • To lead the design, development, integration, and maintenance of healthcare information systems (HMIS/EMR) and other enterprise applications. The role ensures delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable digital health solutions supporting clinical, administrative, and reporting functions in compliance with Kenyan health data regulations.

    Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    System Design & Architecture

    • Lead architecture and design of hospital and enterprise applications.
    • Translate clinical and business requirements into technical solutions.
    • Develop scalable and secure HMIS/EMR modules.
    • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.

    Healthcare Application Development

    • Develop and enhance EMR/HMIS modules (patient management, billing, pharmacy, lab, etc.).
    • Build secure RESTful APIs for health systems integration.
    • Implement interoperability standards (HL7/FHIR where applicable).
    • Customize healthcare workflows and forms.

    System Integration

    • Integrate EMR/HMIS with LIS, RIS/PACS, ERP, and insurance platforms.
    • Support data exchange with Ministry of Health reporting systems.
    • Troubleshoot complex integration issues.

    Security & Compliance

    • Implement secure coding standards.
    • Enforce role-based access controls (RBAC).
    • Ensure compliance with Kenya Data Protection Act and MoH guidelines.
    • Conduct vulnerability assessments.

     DevOps & Deployment

    • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines.
    • Containerize applications using Docker.
    • Manage development, staging, and production environments.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
    • Master’s degree is an added advantage.

    Professional Experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in software development.
    • At least 1 years working with healthcare systems (HMIS/EMR) preferred is added advantage.
    • Proven experience in system integration projects.
